Re: Form-1 50 BMG suppressor

There is a local place that does hard anodize. I will get a price on getting these pieces done. That's ok, but understand that these are silencer (firearm) parts and can't be left w/ just anyone. If they don't have the proper FFL license, you'll need to remain at the shop, until parts are finished....

Re: My 50bmg suppressor journey

Onlinemetals.com is where I get most of my raw stock. They have decently priced 4130.

Re: Form-1 50 BMG suppressor

I know aluminum isn't recommended for most rifle calibers, but anodizing or cerakote might help. I'm using preformed SS freeze plugs, 1.80 dia, from wedge machining. Mines a little goofy, I'm recessing the main tube into the expansion chamber and using a "gas stripper" baffle to try to lim...

Re: Anyone experiment making high and low pressure in cans?

It's a special purpose can for my 50bmg. I more so want recoil reduction than sound suppression.

Re: Anyone experiment making high and low pressure in cans?

I'm experimenting with this, trying to increase dwell time of the gas in the can. I'm taking a bit of an unconventional approach. It's kinda like a reflex can, except the blast chamber is a larger diameter, with the main tube recessed into it. It mounts onto a brake and the blast baffle divides the ...

Re: hole pattern on K baffle design

Seems more of an OCD thing, those tabs and matching cuts for maintaining alignment. Of course who wouldn't want them if they were easy? Seems to offer a bit of a professional touch. I've just not heard any difference in orientations, good baffles seem vastly more important. My baffles are gonna be ...

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but for clipping should the clips line up? Or does it matter?

Re: Form 1 build material sourcing?

Yeah..I was afraid someone would say something to that effect. I was planning on running subs only, but after reading your input, I think I may opt for a bunch more Ti baffles and use the aluminum ones for the last few? not sure. The problem with such thin skirts on aluminum baffles (and not necess...

Re: Form 1 build material sourcing?

So, I'll probably get mine any day now. For my 50 cal can, I already made the mount using raw stock and parts I modified, along with the original brake on my rifle. I'm using 1.749 diameter formed freeze plugs for the baffle stack, and everything else is gonna be raw stock. You gotta post some pics...

Re: Form 1 build material sourcing?

Took a little over a month, even with me screwing up the paperwork twice, it was my first time, so I was shooting in the dark. I did end up ordering machined parts from diversified machine and solvent traps direct. Solvent traps direct has very quick shipping and I received cups in under a week, wh...

Re: Form 1 build material sourcing?

First, I got a question for you: how long did it take to get your stamp? I submitted mine a few weeks ago.

Look up solvent traps. I'm not a machinist either (unless you count poor man's machining), but I am a welder, so I'm sourcing a combination of almost finished parts and unfinished stock.

I won't know for sure until I get the rest of the can built, but it sits pretty solid. No wobble or rotation so far.

Re: 50 BMG QD mount

we need a wiki on how to post photos. upload to imgur.com https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imgur then post the link within the [img /img] brackets. Also, you mention that this will be a "scrap metal" can. The outer tube determines whether it can handle the pressure, is concentric, properly o...

50 BMG QD mount

So, I haven't figured out how to upload photos yet, but I'll post them when I do. This is my first update thread! I'm currently designing a 50 BMG can for my rifle and I've settled on a Sionics MAC style can, or possibly extending the larger OD tube over the baffle stack to make it a flow through ca...

After revisiting the turbo baffle, I had an idea. For those of you familiar with SDTA, would a scaled up version of the challenge coin work for 50 BMG? For those of you not familiar,

Re: Turbocharger baffles

I made buffles as shown in my video. https://youtu.be/O-FHOPtOKp0 in fact, the gas flow rate on the turbine blades is close to subsonic because the silencer’s inside is a different gas environment than in the atmosphere and the speed of sound is different... I use such turbines only as an explosive...

Cyclops brake acme threads

Does any know what the acme thread pattern is on the AAC cyclops brake? Can the ratchet mount on the can be bought separately once I get my tax stamp? I've got a couple other options for mounting a form 1 with acme threads, but I think the Cyclops brake would be preferable if it's possible. Thanks!
