Would've been just as bad with any rifle; rifle vs handgun, the rifle will win every time. With that mindset, you definitely would not win a firefight against someone with a rifle. However, someone with the skill AND the will (mindset) to use a handgun to its fullest potential could likely easily b...

Like I said, I don't really need a smaller gun for everyday concealment. I am not worried about everyday concealment, I am worried about the use of external holsters leading to me getting hassled. Working on the chest rig now. *edit* That said, however, this summer I'd like to get a subcompact / poc...

I think I might have a solution. It basically will look like several pouches on a chest rig, but not specifically like a gun holster. I will have to make it from scratch, so I've got to go find some decent fabric and get some more Hook-and-Loop, but I'll let you guys know what kind of progress I make.

Jesus! You weren't kidding about it being sad! After watching it, I proceed to stomp around the apartment ranting and raving about silly gun laws and the damn liberals... *sigh* Had that been me, the guy would have been dead when he reached back into the vehicle. That's if I didn't mace him when he ...

For the .45-70, using lighter bullets (like 300gr) at subsonic velocities would not likely result in muzzle pressures much greater than standard 230gr .45acp loads. I wouldn't be too concerned about trying that. If you were trying to usefull-power .45-70 loads, however, you would not likely end up w...

I can conceal it with everyday clothes just fine, even in warmer weather, its just that it isn't comfortable or secure enough to use for running around in the woods for a weekend. As far as the comfort goes, it's only when I bend over far, like tying shoes, that it starts to dig in a bit. Sitting in...

Twinsen, that is definitely some top notch SWAT / Spec Ops / Ranger gear right there! I am thinking of something I could wear at the range (casual shooting by myself, not three-gun matches or anything) without having people snickering at me behind my back, or while camping in various arenas from pu...

Agreed, though it is all absolutely practical. A chest or thigh holster is faster, more secure, and less obtrusive than most concealment holsters. A tac vest with two dozen pockets will give faster and easier access to all equipment than a backpack. I am just trying to figure out where everyone draw...

How "tac" do you guys look with your gear?
When I first got into this whole "zombie survival thing" (as some friends call it :P ), I used to be all about black vests with lots of pockets, and big guns and lots of magazines and ammo and such. However, I slowly realized there are a lot of in-between stages between everyday life and t...

Thanks guys. This is a whole lot more good info that I expected! Even though I'm still working with the magnets for the time being, I've still learned a lot of useful info, like to not store empties where full mags go, and just the general knowledge that I'm not crazy for wanting to hold on to my em...

Ooh thanks guys! I will definitely look into those dump pouches. Very good point about not putting the spent mags in the original pouch, also! *edit* Have you guys used anything like this? Do you know if it can be used with a regular belt? http://www.511tactical.com/browse/Home/Law-Enforcement/VTAC/...

Ah ok cool. I had never heard of anyone talking about it, and when brought up most people act like it is a silly notion. Do these dump pouches has some sort of stiffening ring that holds the top open and away from the body? Or do you just mean basically an unclosed pocket or standard pouch? I tried ...

Empty Magazine Retention?
Does anyone else practice reloading, and then keeping the empty magazine / speedloader? I've never heard of anyone doing that, but it seems like in a crazy SHTF situation, especially if one were not home**, tossing all your empties on the ground while evading means after the fight (if you survive), ...

And as stated, I intend to get a suppressor for my pistol for HD, and perhaps even for car defense. When I have a kid, while a first priority would be killing the guy trying to drag me out of the car while my kid is in the back seat, a secondary consideration is ruining my kid's sensitive ears by po...

cardboardkiller: 1) About the window comment: You say it is a bad idea to use an AR for HD because of the risk of over-penetration. Several people cited many links proving the difference between suitable rifle round and a suitable pistol round is very small as far as over-penetration goes, so that l...

As far as over-penetration goes: http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot1.htm No round that will reach adequate penetration depths in a BG will be stopped by a reasonable number of standard interior walls. And yes, with proper selection of ammunition you not only can end up with a round that is more ef...

Yeah, I'll probably stick with the rifle. I was thinking, it is like the reason I CC a full-sized pistol instead of a more comfortable subcompact. Yeah, the smaller one is lighter and less obtrusive, but when the chips are down nobody would rather have the smaller one. Just the same, a .22 pistol wo...
