Re: Difference in sound for different material?
If there is zero room for movement and everything is locked together tight there will be no difference in sound. Are you sure? I must admit I haven't tested it thoroughly as I've mostly made/used aluminium cans for subsonic. But if you tap a steel can they tend to produce more of a sharp "ping...

Re: Difference in sound for different material?
It depends on how tight you make everything inside the suppressor. If there is zero room for movement and everything is locked together tight there will be no difference in sound. If there is any room for parts to move then it is possible to get a funny sound from the suppressor. In your case on a 2...

Re: Question on legal limits of bore clearance?
... I read the law, that should be legal. Actually firing 40 S&W through it might be a different story, I don't know?? What you fire through it doesn't matter. As has been stated several times now the only thing that matters is the marking and, in my opinion, the size of the bore relative to th...

Re: which can for a 3 lug 9mm SBR
All good suggestions! Thank you for responding. I'm torn between a solid, old school style like the MK-9k (that's the one Gemtech recommended when I called), and something more versatile like the hybrid, Mystic, Curtis Tactical ST9CFP, or Octane. Also, I'm having trouble finding anything actually a...

The 147gr is the heaviest I have tried, I know a guy running 165gr hand loads and a Tirant 9, it sounds good too.eastern_hunter wrote:An MPX with an Octane 9 using 158 gr Fiocchi is as close to 'Hollywood quiet' as a 9mm gets I think.
This setup should be most interesting indeed!

Re: ARES Ruger pistol upper with 40 DB reduction
In this thread from 2010 a few members had success with very short barrels on Mark III's http://www.silencertalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=59405 The Ares Upper would be a similar length to a 2.5" barrel with a Silencerco Sparrow on it. It is theoretically possible for the Ares Upper to be 40db...

Re: Sig MPX 9 Curtis Tactical Integral Suppressor
That looks great Joe! On the 16" version are you pinning it I presume? On the 16" version the rear cap is welded to the barrel and the tube is welded to the rear cap, in this case the whole baffle stack will pull out of the front of the suppressor. The baffles are still threaded together ...

That looks good. 40db reduction sounds normal for an integral MKIII I think, that should put it somewhere just over 110db.

Re: Light 223/heavy 22lr hybrid?
I don't know if you had thought about this or not so I'm just throwing it out there. I like using 30 cal suppressors on 556, it usually gives a deeper tone and less back pressure, that being said I would go 30cal all around suppressor, the larger bore will help eliminate some pressure and 22 sounds...

I never clip the blast baffle no matter design, I have found 180 degree orientation on cones to work the best, that's how tests were done.S4area51 wrote:Good info CT. Did you clip the blast? Also, were the baffles aligned during sound testing?

Re: Has anyone ever tried this kind of baffle?
What I had in mind was more like the ones that Curtis Tactical linked their photo to. Perhaps a little longer cone, but that's about what I had in mind at any rate. OK, since it's already been done, I have to ask, how did they work? This would be primarily for 9mm subs, 38 special, sub blackout. Pe...

Re: 22-250 silencer
I would make it 1.5" OD and around 7"-8" long with 8-10 clipped cones and about a 1.25"-1.5" blast chamber. This would be plenty of suppressor for hunting and you could keep the weight down.

Re: step cut or "scoop"
Great info, Joe, thanks. Have you tried moving the cutter away from the bore, with a clipped cut? Or different depths of cuts? I have tried going 1/4 of the bore across and it was pretty close to the scoop cut. I am expecting the 45 to be a different animal though, time will tell. I am sending my m...

I don't have any photos of the scoop cut but it was done using a .312" ball nose end mill and taken .16" deep. The photo below is what I ended up on being the quietest. In the next few weeks I will be playing with 45acp baffles doing the same thing, I will be sure to get some photos for sh...
