Re: Baffle strike on my new Halo

Ok, new update. Gemtech is essentially washing their hands of it and sending the whole mess to VLTOR, at VLTOR's request. VLTOR plans to repair the can themselves, and figure out the problem with the mount. What I didn't know is that VLTOR is apparently a subcontractor for Gemtech, and has the quali...

Re: Baffle strike on my new Halo

VLTOR has been a bit frustrating to this point, with poor communication. I finally got a supervisor today, and explained to him the situation. Keep in mind, when I first got my Halo, I couldn't use it due to the VLTOR birdcage being out of spec, which they replaced. I told the supervisor that it was...

Re: Anyone using a POF as a host rifle?

For $2k, they should practically shoot themselves. I'm gonna try mine out today, I have PMags, BFI mags, and HK mags to test it.

Anyone using a POF as a host rifle?

I just picked up a POF AR, and I'm toying with the idea of SBRing it and using it as my suppressor host. Anyone using one already?

Re: Baffle strike on my new Halo

Well, Gemtech finally called today, and they said it wasn't as bad as it looks. End cap is toast, last baffle is struck, but he said it's not worth fixing (cost vs. benefit). The strike is small enough where it won't affect sound or accuracy. The problem was the mount not being tight enough on the r...

Re: Baffle strike on my new Halo

Sure there is...I can't afford it!! The AK74 uses a completely different style FSB than a 47, and the threads are BIG. I'm not sure if I could swap FSB and thread the barrel directly, but even if I can, it's not worth the aggravation. What kind of rod? Simply a straight rod that's tight inside the b...

Re: Baffle strike on my new Halo

I have two '74s. The folder is the one that tore up the can, and is going to Gemtech with the Halo and the VLTOR mount. If they can, they will straighten it up. The 2nd 74 is a fixed stock, and I actually shoot that one more, but don't have the balls to put the can on it and try shooting it. I wonde...

Re: Baffle strike on my new Halo

What kind of mount did you use? I do expect to find the FSB canted, is it worth the aggravation to suppress it?

Re: Baffle strike on my new Halo

People complain of the AK because the excessive barrel flex that plagues them, and they're not as accurate as other platforms, but they're not like a shotgun blast or anything. The tolerances are very loose when they're made as well. When I installed the can I noted there was a slight wobble to it, ...

Re: Baffle strike on my new Halo

Yes, I think you're right on that one. I asked the guy at Gemtech if it was even worth trying to get it working right, and he was non committal at an answer. The round should be plenty stable enough, but the alignment of the threads is probably all kinds of goofed up. If GT can line it up and say it...

Re: Baffle strike on my new Halo

It's probably not the HALO, since I didn't have strikes on the AR, but it COULD be the VLTOR mount. The original AR brake I got was very out of spec and didn't fit at all, so it had to be replaced. While I would expect that the AK has lousier specs and is likely the culprit, I don't want to automati...

Baffle strike on my new Halo

I only got my F4 back about six weeks ago, and haven't had any problems with the Halo itself on my AR. The VLTOR mount was out of spec, but I was able to get it swapped out and everything's been great. When I ordered the replacement VLTOR brake, I also ordered the VLTOR AK74 mount, and finally got t...

Who is using a VLTOR mount with their Halo?

When you crank down the mount on your AK74, do you crank it as tight as it goes, or as tight as it goes then back off until the plunger drops into the notch? Mine came with no directions.

Re: Making Your Own Silencer Covers (hot hot hot!)

Bumping this up rather than make a new thread. Has anyone tried the sleeves that mechanics wear to protect against heat? I think they may be Kevlar though, not Nomex. Otherwise that heat blanket from Northern looks like a good idea. I don't like the idea of something wrapped around my can "perm...

Re: HALO on an AK-74...what kind of mount? Any issues?

Got the Vltor mount and it mounts up easily enough, though I haven't fired the rifle suppressed yet. DEFINITELY very front heavy with the can hanging off the end, but it looks good regardless.

HALO on an AK-74...what kind of mount? Any issues?

I'd like to put my new HALO on my AK-74 Bulgarian with 16" barrel. Any issues there? If not, what do I use for a mount?

I brought my Anvil stripped lower to Anvil to SBR. They mucked up the paperwork really badly, and I ended up having to bring over the rest of the parts to have the rifle complete for registering. THey didn't seem to know that this was required until the first F4 came back with a big stamp that said ...
