Re: FFL 07

Once you get your FFL approved and in hand you can submit your application to get your 02 manufacturers SOT tax stamp which will allow you to play with NFA goodies, thats another 500$ per year, possibly $1000 depending on the size of business you are licensing. Note that the SOT fee is due every Ju...

Re: AAC in the NYT

Note: In an earlier version of this article, the caption incorrectly referred to “hand guns.” Also, “multiple-clip magazine,” in the text, should have read “multiple-round magazine.” Both have been corrected. At least they properly identified it as an "opinion" piece, rather than try to p...

Re: AZ LLC now living in Another State

It really shouldn't be any different than any other business that operates in more than one state (although this is much simpler since the LLC isn't generating revenue or incurring other kinds of taxes). It might help, at least for purposes of appearances to the other-state Class III dealer, if the ...

Re: Transfer suppressors from corporation to trust

As robbf213 noted, you will have to pay the transfer tax. An alternative would be to transfer ownership of the corporation to the trust. This would get everything under the trust umbrella without an NFA transfer. But you would still have to maintain the corporation. If there is a cost of maintaining...

Re: A drop in transfer tax fee for suppressors to 5$?

I have no expectation that this will happen anytime soon. It would do nothing to increase the speed of Form 4 approvals. It could increase suppressor sales (and Form 4 approval times) because of the transaction cost decrease. The most positive effect would be on the boost in experimentation done by ...

Re: Petition to remove silencers from NFA.

While I would love to see this happen, it can not be "just removed" from NFA. That would make them illegal in many states as the state laws say "unless registered".
There would be plenty of time to get the state laws amended to take care of that.

Re: W-Baffles = Turbine Baffles ...

Can you get some clear acrylic tube and put your baffle inside and then run the compressed air through it to see if it is actually spinning?
I suspect a sustained flow of gas has little in common with the behavior of an extremely short burst of very high pressure.

Re: Need crime data for states that changed silencer law

A study was published by Paul A. Clark in Western Criminology Review 8(2), 44-57 (2007), titled "Criminal Use of Firearm Silencers." Abstract: Both the public and sentencing judges regard silenced firearms as more dangerous than ordinary unsilenced firearms, and the federal penalty for pos...

Re: What if you really strike gold?

If you want to sell (or license) it to a company, they will want to know that the potential to patent it (at their expense) has not been lost. In the US, that means that it hasn't been disclosed or used publicly, or offered for sale, for more than one year.

I think it would be incredibly cool to make a transparent suppressor and do high speed video of it being shot. It would probably have to be cleaned between each shot, so temperature wouldn't be a big issue. Understand, what I'm talking about would not be for actual use outside a lab. Just for study ...

Re: Any patent issues with K baffles ?

Since you are in New Zealand, only New Zealand patents would apply.

The basic K-baffle is in the public domain everywhere at this point. As stated, there may be patents on improvement features. But you only need to be concerned about NZ patents.
