Sid Post wrote:What is the point? $300 for an SBR is not going to give you many options or a lot of quality. You don't have to spend a fortune to get a good quality rifle/SBR but, $500 to $700 opens up a lot of options.
The point is to see what options there are.

If you are willing to do the work of a kit build, then a PPS or an AK shorty would kick some real butt. Is minimal machining/ fabricating a parameter of the $500 challenge? If you're willing to build, the options expand dramaticly. You can do a Skorpion re-weld for under $300. Lots of WWII and Cold...

Kitbuilt under- or side- folder AK might just make the price point; bonus savings in that 922r doesn't apply to NFA stuff, so you don't have to buy compliance parts. Centerfire has barrel-included Romanian M65 kits for $250, or barrel-less for $120, Apex has Romy barrels for $100. That plus a recei...

No SBR needed folded length is 16 inches, fits in most backpacks.
That's going around the idea of the challenge.

I'm trying to go with something semiauto here. I'm just trying to see what ideas come up. The point is if it's interesting, I can do this project for kicks without making a dent in the budget for other nicer projects.

I bet someone I could do something for under 5, but I won't be too sad if I lose by just a bit if it's a decent gun.

Cheap SKS or AK seem to fit your bill. SKS's are at 370 and don't make for very compact without a lot of work. The draco pistol I could weld a stock adapter to the back, but the pistol + tax are already over 500, not including the stock. Though this is a very attractive option Is this thing suppose...

CZ-82 = $200 Form1 Tax = $200 Buttstock welded onto the frame < $100 SBR for under $500 = priceless Why not go for a CZ-52? 7.62x25 has a lot more ass to it then 9mm mak. Not as suppressable since it comes out screamin fast but that wasnt one of the original requirements. that + jhp ammo = a whole ...

What's the goal, why an sbr instead of a pistol? The tax stamp is 40% of the build. Mostly just for the heck of it, to see if an interesting SBR can be made cheaply. I find that anything with a stock(even if it's a wire one) is more stable for firing, but usually not convenient to carry, so I have ...

I was hoping for something with some kind of power to it. I was thinking of finding/making a stock for a CZ-82 or a TTC.
My best two (not under 500)
MPA SBR'ed with a mac style stock
Draco AK pistol SBR'ed

$500 SBR challenge

I'm trying to see if I could come up with an SBR that could be made(Tax included) on a form 1 for less than $500 and fit within a map case or small backpack easily and the less machining or manufacturing I need to do the better.

Get it engraved and then do it yourself. It's not too hard, just measure and cut carefully then file it down and touch it up.

I already have a wiped micro can. I'd probably buy another if it was low priced. Ideally I'd like a combo of wet/wiped with the option to leave out the wipes.

Is go over to Light Fighter, find the guy with the "Tentative" 500 gun order, and throw your name in the pile as Confirmed.
