Here is a bit of video of an Uzi with a square 2" steel pipe suppressor.

Re: Does anyone have ideas for radical designs?
Well there is the Silencerco Osprey. By many reports it's a rock solid performer, excellent suppression and works like a charm on a lot of heavier powered handguns.

Re: The oss supressor pros and cons
Well I have zero hands-on experience with the sorts of firearms OSS suppressors would be installed to, but having followed the past few months' news regarding these developments and the discussion around them here's my two cents. OSS suppressors are not intended to be the best-suppressing (as in qui...

Re: Outer tube wall thickness for centrefire overbarrel??
... you're right about flipping direction during testing. :) Which reminds me, another item to add to my test list for when my cheapo sound level meter arrives in a few weeks - flip all K baffles around backwards, flip alternate baffles, flip first baffle... On a PCP pistol, which is hardly the sam...

Re: Outer tube wall thickness for centrefire overbarrel??
Yeah, I considered that stuff if in less detail, but I guess it bothers me that the high pressure air coming down the pipe ahead of the bullet is going to funnel through that initial hole rather than shearing away from it. Seems like a bit of potential for unwanted turbulence at the initial baffle, ...

Re: where is the sound from
In my experiments with suppressing a 13fpe PCP carbine (about as loud unsuppressed as a small washer and spacer suppressor on a .22" rimfire pistol) I've found that medium frequencies tend to be the least disturbing. Too low, as I did with a long over the barrel suppressor made from PVC tube wi...

Re: Best way to mechanically clean bare aluminum baffles?
I have to wonder, and might as well wonder out loud since we're discussing this. If the carbon film is so hard to remove, doesn't it make sense to leave it in place to protect the aluminum? I mean how much sense does it make to resort to abrasives or wire brushes and scour the baffles, risking unwan...

Re: where is the sound from
Interesting, but the bore size looks a bit large for .22"LR. Larger, more powerful rounds might not benefit much from the subtlety of a wire brush after-baffle, if there's benefit to be derived that is. Still, interesting to see there's a tool already out there one could perhaps try.

Re: where is the sound from
Yeah, I know. A lot of his work is more than a bit silly. But apparently he's very, very popular among NZ shooters who say his suppressors are ridiculously quiet. That long integral .22" is obviously going to be quiet with so many conical washers and spacers, so one has to wonder how much noise...

Re: where is the sound from
Hmmmm..... just wondering then, if the sound is primarily exiting from the exit of the suppressor, would it help to diffuse it any? What effect would there be to adding an extra 'end plate' after the last baffle, possibly with a bit of extended spacing, and have that end plate perforated, maybe eve...

Re: where is the sound from
The vast majority will be from the expanding gasses exiting the suppressor and I'm not sure how you would test the suppressor without that noise factor. Actually it is fairly easy to eliminate most of the orifice noise. Just fire with the suppressor pressed lightly against a foam block. Absorbs alm...

Re: Best way to mechanically clean bare aluminum baffles?
Oh right, forgot about walnut shells. Those things are seriously hard, but still softer than aluminum, so they should hold reasonably sharp edges through one cleaning session while not damaging the baffles. Good call.

Re: Best way to mechanically clean bare aluminum baffles?
If you get a cheapo kid's rock tumbler 'toy' it should do just fine, using media which is significantly softer than the aluminum of your baffles and changing it out once early on to avoid the crud initially falling off the baffles causing abrasion. At a guess I'd start with a pile of airgun lead pel...

Re: bore size question
K Also. would it help to have the baffle bore larger and then get it nice and tight at the end? If any variance in bore diameter I'd suggest the opposite would be preferable, for two reasons: - A tighter bore for the blast baffle is less likely to cause a baffle strike as any threading alignment er...

Or you can just buy a hole deburring tool and save the edm money for ammo. Well that's interesting. Hadn't really looked into that, but it seems there's some cool tech for this available. That one big K Baffle was bugging me. Instead I think 3 smaller Ks inside a smaller tube would work better.
