Re: Form 1 Typo

Shoot, I'd get a different piece of tubing for a spacer; the thickness of that thing is ridiculous. You're adding a bunch of unnecessary weight and eating up volume that could be helping reduce noise.

Re: Screw it... I'll make my own.

No quench needed either, but otherwise yes. The H900 condition is achieved by starting with annealed 17-4, holding at 900* F for 1 hour, then air cool. That's it. Hardness should be 42-44 Rc. The H900 condition actually machines really well but is harder to drill, so I prefer to make the baffles bef...

Re: Screw it... I'll make my own.

Since it's taking so damn long to get back ATF Forms anyway... I'm seriously considering just building my own can on a Form-1. Looking for a set of SIMPLE (first build) plans for a SHORT, direct-thread 5.56 can, for a 7.5" barrel... I'm actually a Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineer by education,...

Re: thread pitch

I wouldn't do 15/16" x whatever. I would do whatever decimal amount gives you full thread engagement with maximized tube thickness. This. There's no reason to stick with a specific fractional size. I would do 28tpi for even more remaining tube thickness; the only advantage to a coarser pitch i...

Pitting sounds more like corrosion, but I didn't see it.

Still, that's a rifle round. This thread is about a 22 LR suppressor.

Re: Tube erosion?

I will only run one 17-4 baffle...the blast baffle...to keep weight down. However I could visualize the deflection from the blast face directly impinging on the aluminum tube and wondered if anyone here had seen significant erosion on high round count cans from this. It would be reduced, but still ...

Re: Tube erosion?

Just anodize the tube, it'll be fine. BTDT. It's just a .22 LR after all. You sure don't need 17-4 for the baffles either.

I've noticed lately here people worry way too much about erosion and longevity of low pressure cans like .22 LR and 9mm.

After lurking a while it seems that a conservative design is a muzzle brake on host, ... Since the hosts have different muzzle threads I need an adapter to make the threads identical. Maybe I'm missing something - you don't need thread adapters, you need muzzle brakes in different threads that will...

Re: Max suppressor weight for recoil booster

Isn't it better to over build? No, not to the level you are taking it. You can achieve pretty much infinite durability at about 1/4 the weight of what you're planning. There's a lot more to it than just lifting weights. For example, with that lead anchor of a pistol can, all that extra weight will ...

Re: Max suppressor weight for recoil booster

With a 40 oz pistol can, whether it cycles or not is the least of your worries. That weight is ridiculous, and about 4x more than a "middle of the road" commercial or form 1 can. This doesn't even fit the category of erring on the side of durability "cause it's a lifetime purchase!&qu...

Does anyone here know - are these kiosks only for use when buying SilencerShop products, or is it a stand-alone service that could be used for other NFA stuff like an SBR F1 for example?

I am certainly no engineer. I am. I appreciate your observations and thought provoking comments. The one big thing I see missing from the discussion though is this: The sound we're trying to suppress is a pressure wave, not hot gas. They are related, but not the same, and need to be thought about d...

Re: Secondary Blast Baffle discussion

Still, a can with several 1/8" spacers that could allow the baffle spacing to be rearranged would be cool for testing this. That's how I built my first F1 can (except with 1/4" and 1/2" spacers), for exactly that reason. All the same parts went in the suppressor each time, but they c...

Re: Is a blast chamber really needed/heat treating baffles

T-Rex, gotcha. You are correct of course that 17-4 is more free machining in the hardened states. I really like 17-4 partly for it's strength. In a F1 can I built several years ago, I'm using .030" thick cone baffles in 17-4 (blast baffle is .060" thick) for everything up to and including ...

Re: Is a blast chamber really needed/heat treating baffles

17-4 is not free machining. At best, H1150 rates at a 50. Cutting the annealed condition is less than optimal and H900 is worse. While less hard as annealed or H900, H1150 cuts decent and will do a fine job being internals. It will have corrosion resistance equal to 304, but have twice the UTS. I a...

here's a interesting concept. it uses 2 of the teflon(ptfe) seals as "slides" then a special teflon seal(glide seal) in the center with a o-ring beneath it to push it into the sealing surface. they claim 5800 psi sealing capability and 500' F temps http://www.skf.com/binary/21-159555/1205...

The Silencerco Osprey9mm is notorious for a high pitched tone. It annoys my ears. Most people prefer "low tone" cans. Lower the frequency, the longer the sound will travel over distance and time. The higher the frequency, the faster the report will drop off. So it's a catch22. I still pre...
