223 SS suppressor thickness safe limit
So i finally got my second form 1 can together. I made a .223 can out of 316SS for the tube and 416 for the internals. The tube was .065 thickness. The whole can is 7.25" long and the blast chamber is 3" of that, with 5 60 degree baffles after with spacer in between. The can will be used o...

Yea, just looking for a timeline. My card was charged last month finally but no word on an expected ship date. Even an estimate.

Re: Welded in baffles
another question i have...while i can mig, i have never gotten down (or really had the time to get down) a tig. I had a friend of my brother weld my last can together as hes a master welder. No s--t, a lot of the welds you see on structures and displays at the Smithsonian museums in DC he did lol. a...

Re: Welded in baffles
aye, those pieces look great. I do like the idea of welding the baffle stack with the spacers like the aac design. tho i can see that easily causing warping/distortion. If you made the baffles so they were snapped together like leggos , male to female then held them together under pressure either i...

Re: Welded in baffles
something i didnt do on my last form 1 can, was clean up the outside before painting. With this one, it will live on my AR which has a stainless barrel so i want to keep the can nice and shiny. How much is safe to remove from the outside of a tube that is already .065? I was thinking of taking .005 ...

Welded in baffles
So im thinking of making a slight change to the 223 can im working on. I was planning on going with a standard spacer between my cones like i did on my 308 can, but the more i think about it, im wondering if i should weld them in. If so, what is the best way to do it. Just drill 4 or more holes arou...

Re: Baffle erosion QD vs Direct Thread
These could make going to yhm mount easy fairly new on the market. How you extend it into a suppressor is up to you. http://www.jsesurplus.com/yhm55630calblastdeflector.aspx http://www.jsesurplus.com/yhm30calblastdeflector.aspx ive actually considered these lol. just hate the high price tag as id b...

Re: Baffle erosion QD vs Direct Thread
I was thinking of doing a 1.75"-2" blast chamber. A large blast chamber worked great on my last can so i figured id do the same. Its 1.5" OD .065" wall. The spacers will decrease the ID a bit but i plan to turn them down more. The total length will be 7.25" with 5 60 degree ...

Re: Baffle erosion QD vs Direct Thread
hmm, i suppose i could even find a brake and weld it to the end cap so its all one piece.
I guess i could also make a new endcap with a brake. all one piece.

Baffle erosion QD vs Direct Thread
So im working on my next can. In the .223 flavor. My first can i went direct thread. It stays on my Rem 700 .308 and is lucky if it gets 100 rounds a year through it. This can i would like to put on my AR, and it will see a lot more use. I initially wanted to go with a direct thread like the last, b...

Re: SDTA part questions
This is the thing that got me looking. I have this form 1 can in progress, i was at the point of getting it sealed up and engraved...and i just wasnt happy with the way it turned out. It too is a freeze plug can, but the freeze plugs didnt come out how i wanted all all. The bores didnt line up and i...

Re: SDTA part questions
i can mig, but ive never been able to get down a tig...granted i havnt had much time to try. On my first can I had a friend tig the ends on. I expected it was the end caps as they look huge, plus that gap between the end of the tube to where the thread starts is nothing but weight. Im sure i could f...

SDTA part questions
I sent a message on the website this week but never got a response from the guy at SDTA. Im trying to get some weights on there. On their page for the tubes... http://sdtacticalarms-com.3dcartstores.com/Solvent-Trap-Tubes-C-and-D_p_47.html He mentions a fully assembled can using a 5.5" steel tu...

Re: POI shift question
Yea, makes it hard to estimate ballistics.
Im trying to look at it as if its not a suppressor and just a barrel. If I were to get a new scope, id be zeroing it as if it was just a rifle without a suppressor. Feel I'm missing something though.

POI shift question
I know this is probably an easy question, but my mind just wont put two and two together at the moment. I dont get to the 500+ range very often so i settle with punching paper on my 100yd range behind the house. I made a post a while back when i made my first form 1 can. Not important, but the thing...

.223 endcap thickness
So after building my first form 1 can for my .308 last year, i decided to make another for my .223 AR and bolt action. I may have made a small oops and figured id ask while i can still just toss it an make another. I was putting the finishing touches on the end caps, and i was putting a slight bevel...

Homemade shotshell caddies.
So i figured while waiting for another stamp, Id make something else. Having recently gotten into a little bit of local 3 gun type events, i realized i needed a shotshell holder. I really like the idea of the load two technique, but those holders are really expensive, and hard to make. So I opted fo...

OK thanks for the tips. I'll probably scrap these even though it may or may not make a difference. Would just hate to find out after its all welded up.

bore too big?
So I'm working on my next form one can since my 308 one came out well. This time I'm making a shorty style 223 can. Reading the general concensus here, I decided to use SS freezeplugs. Well I think I goofed. The first plug I tried to shape (using an old steel mouse ball) was off center, so I realize...
