Re: possible alternative end cap mounting

Why are you turning the chuck by hand? That has nothing to do with less infeed. Speed? It's not a race. Go as slow as your machine will go....... This Also, I'm planning on using a stainless tube thickness of .049. Will 28tpi have to go too thick for that? Would i be better off with something like ...

Re: possible alternative end cap mounting

yea, oddly, its my female threads that seem to come out great. the male threads were the ones i was messing up. EDIT: so ive been playing around just turning the chuck by hand and leaving the half nut engaged so its perfect each time, and i finally got two pieces to mate snugly. Took a frigging whil...

Re: possible alternative end cap mounting

So its probably not a bad idea to just turn the damn machine off and turn the chuck by hand huh lol.

Re: possible alternative end cap mounting

the big thing i seem to be screwing up on is the thread depth (doing a 28tpi) and then the OD of the threaded part of the end cap and getting them to mate up not to tight and not too loose. im going pretty slow and only turning off .005 a pass.

possible alternative end cap mounting

So im planning my next project, which is a 9mm can for my SBR. It will be dedicated to that rifle. It has a 5" barrel and the only thing i run thru it ever are my plated 147gr subsonic handloads. roughly right around 990fps at ~70/80 degrees F. Im guessing the muzzle pressure is pretty low whic...

Re: Finished 223 suppressor

Got around to working up a better load for this rifle and I'm happy to see it will still shoot less than 1/2 MOA at 100 yards with the suppressor on. I'm sure i could do better but I'm happy with it taking all the variables into account like using the giessele sd3g (totally not the trigger for shoot...

Re: Zbroyar design

What's funny is that suppression would significantly improve if he removed the center "tube", flipped the baffles around and avoided drilling holes in them. It would basically be a parabolic baffle design with proven suppression. He can keep the odd shape. so basically, if he built it com...

yea i just wasnt sure if it was supposed to be at the address listed for the trust or if it could permanently stay somewhere else as long as it was with a trustee.

Re: So who's filing for new Form 1 or Form 4 before Obama kills off NFA on trusts?

all the more reason to push your states law makers into sending up bills to remove suppressors from the registry. Sure would be nice to get the rid of it all but start with baby steps. I think out of all the items, suppressors would be the easiest to argue for to remove. Hell, even the overtly anti ...

trustees possessing nfa items

have a question here. After building a couple form one cans my brother has shown some interest, and has been curious about building one for his 50 beowulf (if we do it im thinking omega baffles as they are good for low pressure rounds so lemme know if thats a good choice). However hes one of those t...

Re: Finished 223 suppressor

well i initially wanted to do the brushed finish to match the barrel. It was my plan all along to leave it unpainted. Then i was cleaning it up with the glass bead and thought it looked nice with that finish so ill leave it as is. Had no idea the MIG was a better option. TIG always looks nicer so i ...

Finished 223 suppressor

So after some help figuring out some pressures in this thread http://www.silencertalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=136640&p=935031#p935031 i took off about as much as i was comfortable with to fix some ugliness that happened during turning the can. Ultimately I'm not as happy with it for t...

Re: 223 SS suppressor thickness safe limit

understandable. I should just deal with it. But because that blast chamber spacer and end cap is all once piece, is there a chance that buys me any extra strength? Before i got it together i actually fired the gun with just the endcap on the muzzle because i have a stupid curiosity. It basically loo...

Re: 223 SS suppressor thickness safe limit

Actually the blast chamber spacer is part of the endcap. It was just a long machined and hollowed out piece. It goes to about the top of the blast baffle where there is just a short spacer to take up the rest of the gap. and what is hoop stress? pic below of blast chamber...best i could due to light...

Re: 223 SS suppressor thickness safe limit

damn, .005 is insane. Thats a hell of a lathe (and machinist) to even get there. Thats not even two sheets of notebook paper thin. Im looking and lets say i went down to .040 thickness. would i be good? I came across one of Ranb's old posts where he said; "I used .035" 4130 for my last two...

Re: All New 300 BLK PDWSD

I gotta ask something here because i see it a lot. How come a lot of people use such a huge baffle stack/lots of baffles? Doesnt that take up a lot of volume? Now ive only built 2 so far, one for 308 and one for 223, but in both i have only 5 60 degree baffles and a rather large blast chamber and it...

Re: 223 SS suppressor thickness safe limit

Man i wish i could math like that lol. That was my worst subject in school and go figure id take up a hobby it would help in. So it's probably safe to take a little more off but how much is too much? Does that volume also take into account the ~.030 thick spacer in the blast chamber between the end ...

Re: 223 SS suppressor thickness safe limit

So how do i get the expansion chamber volume when you take into account that the muzzle brake goes into it? Other than that, help me make sure I'm doing this right... On the burst calculator i put OD- 1.480 T- 0.550 S- 6503 (from here http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=14884&step=4&...
