Re: 40 caliber bore size
Rule of thumb Ive seen thrown around is bullet + 0.050". Ive done tighter for my 2 cans with no ill effects though. Did .25" for a 22LR and .340" for a 30 cal. In your position Id say .44 sounds about right.

Yes. It just easier than single pointing the inside of those little pistons.

Octane/Osprey piston dimensions
Filed a F1 for a 45 can last night. Plan on using all Ti and building a booster but I wanna use Silencer Co's pistons from the Osprey/Octane line so I can move the can between multiple calibers. I was wondering if someone could give me the external dimensions of the Osprey /Octane pistons so i can m...

Adapting my F1 design for 300 Mag
A friend of mine is wanting to file a form 1 and have me help him build a suppressor now after hearing my form 1 build. Hes wanting it to go on his 28" barrel 300 WSM though. And hes wanting to try and do it completely outta Titanium... Other that thickening up the blast and second baffle, mayb...

Re: Maglite Suppressor?
and does that 125 include the hours of time spent learning to cut threads and do the work. Cost of tools. Cost of replacement tube for the several that will come out bad when you first start. I am not knocking doing it yourself but if you dont think that for someone with 0 skill and 0 tools its a c...

Re: Maglite Suppressor?
Is the reason for using the maglite tube and freeze plug baffles cost savings or lack of machine tools? If cost savings, I think its gonna come out about the same versus using all stainless and machining the baffles. I have $125 in my fully machined and welded stainless steel 30 cal suppressor. So f...

Re: 1.5" x .188 wall 6061 for .223 can?
I know when I was starting out with my smaller machines I was afraid of turning stainless but honestly its not much different than regular high carbon steels. Feeds and speeds are key. Carbide helps but HSS can be used too. Aluminum will work for what your trying to do but with the tax stamp on thes...

Are you stuck on alum for the tube? Even .065 wall 1018 steel would be better and probably lighter than 6061.

Re: 30 Cal QD Form 1 build
Got to run the can in a match this weekend. After the match was over a few of us shot or suppressors side by side and I videoed it. Im in the middle. 300 WM with a Thunderbeast 30p1 closest to the camera, and a Tactical Suppressed Weapons 30 cal can on a 260 in the back. http://youtu.be/3gJN-djj2oU

Re: 30 Cal QD Form 1 build
(I know this is subjective) How does the can sound to your ears both on the .308 and the Blakout? Im probably a little biased but I think it sounds great! I will get to shoot it this weekend next to a few other manufacturers cans and Ill be able to give a more realistic comparison of the performanc...

Re: 30 Cal QD Form 1 build
Finally got to the range with the can and shot it on 2 hosts. First is my 19.5" 308 with full power 178gr ammo. On the bolt gun, no accuracy was lost at all and the POI shift was exactly 0.5mil up and repeatable. http://youtu.be/9miGQ2g6w4Y?t=4s Second is on my 9.75" Blackout with factory ...

Re: 30 Cal QD Form 1 build
My can is 1.5" OD and 9.25" long. As Rocker said, there is no set dimensions in this game. You can tailor your can to any length/width you want based on baffle type, type of attachment, materials, intended use, etc... There are a lot of very good examples of cans on here so with a little r...

Re: 30 Cal QD Form 1 build
Thanks. I machined the lower from an 80% Billet and did the engraving myself with an electro etcher. The upper is a Mega billet. The barrel I turned myself from a blank to my own custom profile and designed it for a future 2 point suppressor. The handguard is a Head Down Provectus that is actually m...

Re: 30 Cal QD Form 1 build
I havent actually shot this brake without the can so I cant speak to how effective it is. Brakes really arent rocket science though so you should be able to figure something out. If you wanna use this design, by all means be my guest. I like it. Here are some pics of the can all welded up and attach...

Re: 30 Cal QD Form 1 build
After double checking you are correct sir. I put the baffles all in the tube today after marking it and had it welded up. Threw it on my 300 Blackout and put a few rounds through it. Defiantly hearing safe I think. I'll post some pics shortly. Thanks a million for everyones input and help. I've alre...

Re: 30 Cal QD Form 1 build
1. No I am leaving the stabilizing ring sold so that it forms a separate blast chamber with the muzzle brake being the initial baffles. 2. Ive seen it done both ways but I think that having them 180* opposing will cause some cross jetting of the gasses and hopefully help suppression. Ive seen this c...

I am gonna clip the middle cones actually. If you look at the CAD at the top of the first post youll see the clipping. I took the pics fresh off the lathe so the mill work hasn't been completed.

Making your own Ferfrans style blast redirection device
After completing my QD 30 cal can I have some tube left over and I wanna build a open ended piece that attaches to the brake to redirect the blast forward and spare my shooting partner the blast when Im not using the suppressor. I cant imagine this reducing sound in any way as there are no baffles, ...

Re: 30 Cal QD Form 1 build
Depends on the design of your brake but I was able to do mine without the between centers. I did the bore and ID first obviously. Next I put a 5/8x24 mandrel in the chuck and indicated it in and screwed the brake on the mandrel. From here I did faced to length and did the OD profile as well as threa...
