Re: 30 Cal QD Form 1 build

No problem at all. Its a 7/8" HSS countersink I found on eBay for $25. It worked fine but a carbide would have been better. It was slow going with the HSS and the SS galled a little on the edges cause I could only go so fast. http://www.ebay.com/itm/300594635313?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_tr...

Re: 30 Cal QD Form 1 build

Unfortunately I didnt take any pics of the brake being made. Ive cut plenty of multi-start acme threads but I always had servos to help me with them. lol. Never done multi-start on my manual and dont get to play on the CNCs anymore so I just ruld that out. Consider that the threads on my brake are o...

Re: 30 Cal QD Form 1 build

I used 7/8x20 60* threads for this and the lockup shoulder behind them is 30*. I was gonna use a coarser ACME or Stub ACME but I just said screw it and went with a standard thread. The 30* mating surfaces lock up very solid and Im excited to try it out once its all welded.

Re: 30 Cal QD Form 1 build

Ive gotta wait till the week to swing by my guy and get it all welded up. Then Ill throw it on my blackout with some subs and see how she sounds. Gotta make another brake for the 308 and run some real rounds through it then.

30 Cal QD Form 1 build

Ive had this form sitting here for 2 months and its been killing me that I havent had time to build it. I finally made the time this weekend to spin this thing up. Ive spent a really really really long time planning this thing and after many many revisions to my design I came up with this; http://im...

Re: Bore for 308 muzzle brake/Compensator?

Ill weigh in on this since I just did a muzzle brake attached 308 suppressor. I bored the brake to 0.340' and the baffles to 0.360". That seemed to be the most logical sizes given the roles of the two items.

Re: AAC Cyclone vs Thunderbeast 30P-1

I have a friend with a 30BA on a 300 Win Mag and its crazy how quiet it makes that thing. But Ive also heard the Cyclone on a few rifles as well and its pretty quiet too. Never gotten to hear the two next to each other though so I cant give opinion on that. I don't think you would be disappointed wi...

Re: Changing/Remaking a can.

Thought.. 07/02 bores out the ID of the baffles to pass 6.5mm bullets. It still passes .224" bullets. Its now just an over bored 5.56 can and needs no annotations, remarking, changes to the registry, etc...

Re: Elite Iron Sierra/SD opinion

I dont have any experience with Elite Iron's 338 can but I have gotten to hear a vast number of 30 cal cans including the AAC and Elite Iron ones. The Elite Iron cans sound every bit as good as the 7.62 SDN6 and better than the Gemtech or Surefire cans. The one can that I can say performs better tha...

Re: Plated bullets through suppressor?

Seems pretty simple to me. Either buy a quality aftermarket threaded barrel, or dont shoot plated bullets through the 92.KKM makes a very nice stainless one for $290. As for why the OE barrels are doin this, I cannot say.

Re: Grade 9 Titanium in my can

I went ahead and ordered some 0.050" wall 304L instead of the Ti. The cheapest 0.065" wall Ti I found was $90 for 24". That was more than all the other materials for this build so I just gave up on it. I calculated the weight difference at only like 1oz. Doubt I'm gonna be able to tel...

Re: Grade 9 Titanium in my can

Thank you for the input CMV. I was afraid of that. Ill look for some 0.065" wall Ti instead. Thanks. I have no experience with machining Ti so I dont wanna buy all that material and not be able to do the machine work needed plus I prefer HSS to carbide and I dont even have a carbide threading t...

Re: glock 17 with 9mm can. Require Booster/LID?

For a can that size your gonna need a pneumatic piston! Why so large? As for off the shelf boosters/neilson devices/LIDs etc.. Look at the Gemtech unit. Ready to go for about $150 iirc. As for the size of your can I'd pare that thing down to about ~8" long and ~1.375" OD. Weight is a big f...

About as simple as it gets. 1.625" OD and 6.5" long direct attach. This should be a decent performer.

Here is what Im planning right now. The Ti will be the short spacers between the baffles and the long one in the blast chamber around the brake.

Grade 9 Titanium in my can

Quick question before I order some material. My 30 cal can will be all stainless and welded at the ends but I'd like to save a little weight by using some 0.035" wall grade 9 Ti for the baffle spacers. The can will have a 0.065" wall outer tube so I'm not worried about pressure on the insi...

Re: End caps & tube, order of machining? Jet 9x20 Need

This is just the way Id do it so take it for what its worth. On the endcaps, if you do both the OD thread and the ID thread in the same setup you will have much better concentricity. Id chuck on a longer than needed piece, turn the OD to size and thread, then drill bore and thread the ID. Then use y...

sizulku, would you mind posting how you held the stock in the lather to turn the baffles? Im having a hard time figuring out an order of operations to turn mine which will be similar to yours. Im thinking Im gonna turn the ID taper first then turn the OD taper before parting the resulting cone off. ...

I had planned on using a carbide endmill to punch the port holes, not a drill. Doing this Ive never had much of an issue with burrs on the ID.
