Re: What type of stainless steel should I use
I use 316L. Stainless is kinda stringy when turning it....be cautious don't let it get a hold of you.

"Shift1" Nice machining and great look with the snake print. What baffles did you go with, same as the end cap - concave? Can you give us more details about your QD system? Pictures explanation? Gunny Gunny, baffles are a bit of a hybrid design. The core is basically a coaxial design usin...

Re: Little Teaser
Its a can for a shorter barreled .308 class weapon system. (16 1/2 barrel.) The earlier discussion was related to the muzzle pressures associated with these shorter barreled platforms.Baffled wrote:Nice looking work, even though I missed the first part about what it is!

All your doing here is making me want to get a mill..... All of the sudden, "just a lathe" doesn't seem good enough for me anymore. cool stuff. Oh it goes much farther than just the mill.....recesses were done with a super spacer  Just like the lathe....the real money is in th...

Proof of life
Okay okay I know the rules of not holding out on pics for new projects. Earlier I posed the question about muzzle pressures on shorter barrels and that soon would be posting a proof of life vid. Well .... still do not have that vid. Have been playing with my toys and to be frank I have been working ...

Re: Muzzle pressure
Can the muzzle blast in a can be regarded as gas flow at any time ? Can Bernoulli's principle be applied to estimate the max pressure in the can from the muzzle pressure ? That's basically how I did it; I harbor no illusions that its exactly accurate, and I add a significant 'safety factor' when ap...

Muzzle pressure
Okay so here is a silly question, but is does have some merit to the addiction we are all feeding. Anyone have an inkling about the muzzle pressure of a 16 inch .308? I believe the port pressure for an M14/M1A is designed at 12000 psi but the way it is designed, is to dump excess gases once the pist...

sbr question
Okay so this question has more than likely been asked to death and I apologize if it has but....in regard to a registered SBR such as an AR-15, can a different caliber/barrel length be used on that registered lower? I suppose it would depend on how the form was filled out when approved.

Crash damage.....sucks. Bright side is that at least you know what's wrong and it isn't gonna cost your left giggle berry to fix.

What are the chances that there is an issue with the scroll...could have been damaged when machine crashed or an overzealous operator yankin' the lever in a panic trying to do a shut down. Thinking you should plan on a disassembly of the apron to inspect the parts. If you find nothing wrong, you can...

That would be useful to for general milling. The way I am talking about would be when I need rotary indexing with the part mounted in the chuck....just like the stuff enfeild was doing with his. The main gear on the lathe right behind the chuck has indexing holes drilled in the side of it so the la...

Re: Best way to cut K baffle
Wondering which is the best way to make the 60 degree angle cut for the cone on K baffles? i'm fairly new to lathe work, just picked up one and have only had a limitted time on it so far, mostly just turning down aluminum tubing to get the hang of it. Would a countersink be ok? it's for a 22 form 1...

Re: need to find a decently priced machine shop in houston,
What type of equipment are you using? Are you using a 3 jaw or a 4 jaw chuck. Dialed in the stock yes? Tailstock is centered yes? Using center drill is a good thing...Were you using a large drill to open up the spacer section? what was your process? Care to post a drawing of your cone? Maybe we coul...

Re: need to find a decently priced machine shop in houston,
I sent in a form 1 for a .308 suppressor and got it back a few months ago. I designed the suppressor on solidworks and went to start machining cone baffels... I am an okay machinist, but my first cone baffel took me 14 hrs to turn on my uncles old lathe... It did not come within my specs. Does anyo...

Also if it is 6 inches shorter than approved, an addendum should be sent in to reflect the more correct physical dimension.
