Re: Silencer for 9mm Carbine

I've been researching and trying to understand how silencers work and how they are built for the last few weeks. I now want to build my own silencer for a 9mm Luger (single shot, break action) with 12" barrel length. Projectiles are mostly 115gr. subsonic Here are the specs I came up with: -8&...

Re: Out of state travel with SBR

It might have been a "mistake" on her part but she COMPLETELY BROKE THE LAW like it or not since it is very clear that NJ does NOT have reciprocity with PA CCW permits. I live in PA and work in NJ so it was a 2 min google search that she didn't do to find out she couldn't carry in NJ. &qu...

Re: Out of state travel with SBR

FOPA is a federal law affecting everyone including states. Avoiding a city is one thing, trying to get to Maine from PA is physically impossible. http://s95.photobucket.com/user/mikecleonard/media/StateNFALawMap.png.html Police are human and don't know every single law but as a firearm owner it's g...

Re: Out of state travel with SBR

So I have a pistol that was stamped into a sbr. If I just take the stock off, the feds then consider it alright to transport across state lines? Then if a sbr is legal in final destination state, then just reattach stock? Am guessing I still need the notification form if I want to reattach stock in...

Re: Out of state travel with SBR

Incorrect. They made a "safe passage provision" to the Firearm Owners Protection Act (FOPA) that allows you to travel THROUGH a state that doesn't allow such weapons as long as the item you are transporting is legal in the state it originates and the state you are traveling to and it is t...

Re: PA Open Carrying Suppresor Question

Being in PA, I can tell you while open carrying is legal and owning a suppressor is legal, walking around town with a suppressed pistol on your hip for the world to see is a big issue. It boils down to intent. For instance, walking around with one gun CC, no problem. Walking around with two guns CC...

Cross slide on the last 3 eh? didn't know that. That's why I come here. That's not something to "know", it's bad info. Yes, you can do it that way, but it isn't the "right" way, and isn't going to fix your issue. It's also not what most experienced machinists do. There's always ...

Re: Solvent trap thread sizes...

I can confirm gemtech multimount mount threads are 1 3/16x24 There are a few other manufacturers who followed suit and use the same thread pattern ETA - you need to find a endcap that will thread onto your tube that you then thread the LID into, the LID will not directly thread to a "D" tube

Re: Using Aluminum Spacer and End Caps In 5.56 Form 1 Build?

I think you really need to decide what can you are building. Is it for .22 lr (like you have stated it will be used for mostly) or is it 223/556? This may come off a little harsh, but why the hell would you build a 223/556 can to use primarily on a .22lr? The ideal designs are totally different, the...

Re: Nielson Device for Form 1 compliance

Technically, if your form1 silencer uses a LID that you build, it could be considered a silencer part. The reason that aftermarket "adapters" are not silencer parts is because the ATF has said they are NOT silencer parts and therefore the manufacturers are allowed to sell them. Manufacture...

Re: Thinking about Form 1'ing ... here's why and I have a few questions

How would you compare the sound of a 22lr (from a 4" pistol so subsonic) with an oil filter vs a suppressor? 1st - Just because it's a 4" barrel, don't assume its subsonic. There is a huge difference between a suppressed subsonic vs supersonic 2nd - if a real silencer wasn't a better opti...

Re: Powder burn for 22lr

I might be in left field here, BUT ... if you are mostly worried about keeping the accuracy of your current setup, I would consider buying a $200 Mark II FVSR and building an integral with it. I would cut 4-6" off of it and go from there putting about 6" worth of K baffles in front of it. ...

Re: Nielson Device for Form 1 compliance

If the LID is also an endcap, then yes it is part of the silencer, and then no you would not be able to replace it with a standard threaded endcap. If the LID threads into an endcap, then no it is not part of the silencer, and then yes you could also use a thread adapter for a direct thread option....

It will definitely NOT work without a booster. As to hearing safe, there are many variables there, but a can that size with subs should be hearing safe. Re: 80% baffle suppliers. Where can I buy them from for registered tube repair??

I would look around your local area for machine shops or local hobbiest/ builder type places. If you can get someone with access to a lathe a drawing, you might find a deal for a 12 pack or similar.

There are many small 07/02s out there you may also find able to help you with a recore.

Not sure, I'll try and remember to bring it in to work and weight it on our postage scale.

If Gemtech publishes it, it is the original model with K baffles before they made them user serviceable with a monocore.

I use a Gemtech Multimount on my 92fs with a fixed thread Adapter (no LID) with a 10# recoil spring. Whoever said to use a heavier spring is mistaken. I do suspect though that your can is too heavy and you won't get the gun to function with it as a direct thread on. Also if you are limp wristing, th...

Or spot face it with an end mill and drill. If it needs to be really precise; spot face with end mill, drill with centering spot drill, drill with undersized short drill, drill with undersized full length drill, finish with reamer. Yes, but how did you indicate center? That was the "trick"...
