As others have mentioned the spindle bore is going to be important for you since you want to thread tubes and cut off stock. Short is better on a lathe because longer things flex more and any errors are magnified. If your spindle bore is too small to fit your stock through you are going to be workin...

I agree with the other post .065 is the minimum wall thickness I would consider. Others have had good luck using a muffler pipe as a rifle silencer tube but I personally think that is flirting with danger. the 316 stainless is a good choice but 304 will work well as well. If weight is a big concern ...

Great post James. I have a follow up question though. How do you set your tool height? You mention setting your tool .001 above center so the work does not try to climb over your tool. The only way I know to set tool height is by eye balling it or lining it up with a center in the tail stock. There ...

It sounds pretty good, not super quiet but comfortable to shoot with out ears. Does the porting cut down on velocity much? Have you chronographed it yet? Thanks. Ranb I don't think they are going to hurt velocity much. The first port is 5.5 inches from the breech. I put them so far out to give the ...

Thanks for recommending Photo Bucket L1A1Rocker, that worked much better. Here is the video, it also has some footage of a 22LR screw on can I made.

There is a lot of controversy over rather or not you can thread the barrel on a CX4. Something to do with import laws I think. I suspect that is why there is not much info on suppressing them. I think they have potential to be a good host. Does the bolt on the CX4 have anything to delay its movement...

The Camp 45 is done. I ended up using the smaller cocking knob, in part because the thought of it hitting me in the head bothered me and it did not clear the EOTech. I think most ammo will stay subsonic, of course there will be some that might crack but as a rule 22s stay subsonic in barrels <5 inches without ports. The only advantages I see to taking the barrel out is to reduce "stacking" errors and perhaps for a shorter, more rigid, work piece depend...

L1A1Rocker keep these post coming. I have thought about making a suppressed MKII myself. They are a ton of fun. Keep us posted on how you blend the seam between the tube and receiver. This is one step I could never quite figure out in my mind. I have heard that Ruger bores are very much out of line ...

correct me if I'm wrong since I've just got started myself but you can't just send your tube off for engraving. you have to be present while they are doing it and if they dont get done that day you have to take it with you. you cannot leave it there overnight. If you are going to be there then neve...

Is the bore of a barrel blank measured from land to land or groove to groove? If it is groove to groove, as I suspect it is but really don't know you will need to consider the land as well. Using a barrel blank is a really good idea. If nothing else you could get one a bit undersized and ream or dri...

I am waiting on the tube to get back from the engraver, should be any day now, I hope. Anyhow the baffles do strike a resemblance to Doug's and I give him full credit for "inspiring" me to put the steps in. That said conical baffles have been around for a long time and I do not feel that I...

There is no standard for the threads on the free float tubes. IIRC Yankee Hill uses something like 1.85 X30 TPI Olympic is slightly coarser. Now using a full length tube for an integral 22 or 9mm AR15 upper could be a fun DIY project for a fellow with limited tools. 9mm might get kinda warm though :D

Since you said some of your design goals are to make it compact and light I think you will have better luck with Ks or stepped cones like others have mentioned. I think cutting stainless with a countersink is going to prove difficult. Try using the compound and a carbide boring bar. Aluminum is not the best choice for a 223 can. Think .065 stainless or steel. Your tube will probably work just fine, I just think there are better choices. If you are confident you can get everything perfectly concentric the minimum bore size I would recommend is .265 near the muzzle. With a can 12...

Mtdew's post are correct. On the face of a K baffle, by the bullet hole, there is a scoop (known as a slanted sidewall) this scoop redirects gas across the bullet hole creating turbulence and resistance to all the gas forcing its way through that hole. That redirected gas needs a place to go. That i...

Got a pic? I would be leery of fixing what is not broke. From what I understand of AAC's manufacturing technique, from post on this site, is that they EDM the bullet hole pasage. Okay that makes a bit more sense I was thinking of the general mechanics of how the lock up works. I can see where there is a lot of room for variations for the same mechanism from one gun type to another.

Interesting.
