Re: tapered threads on 300 Mag barrel
It's actually getting tough to find a smith to thread barrels quickly here in Fairbanks... The fastest and best now will not touch anything "firearm related". He ended up involved in the Cox fi-ass-co... My Gunsmith (through shop) wanted to wait till October... My tags start 15 August... N...

Re: can this be used as a base of creation of a pen gun?
One I seen they replaced the top nut with one machined out of steel (original is AL) And added a longer firing pin with a revolver barrel turned and threaded to fit. total length was about nine (9) inches If my memory serves me right was a 32 Magnum. The owner had ferrels with a rod attached to push...

Re: Hiking Gun?
A lot depends on time of year, and what State I happen to be in. March thru November here in AK- normally a 45 Colt lately been a Smith Mountain Gun, but usually a Ruger Blackhawk. (300 gr load) If going to areas with greater chance of furry encounter- a 460 November in Texas- a Glock 20SF w/ 180 gr...

tapered threads on 300 Mag barrel
because of moose season starting next Wednesday, I had a rush job done on threading a barrel. Gunsmith ended up doing a tapered thread job. Other than being an issue with cleaning, is there any other problems I might encounter? Due to eye surgury, it's a can or I go back to stick and string this sea...

Well, I thought loosening after each shooting and cleaning as ssoon as poosible after would keep my can easy to come apart and reassemble. Also use anti0-sieze on the threads, shot about 100 rds of 22lr CCI subsonics, I loosened the end caps and retightened after last session, but now I can't seem t...

I'm still trying to find WTF is this "permit" that has started popping up.
No news of it on Texas Fish and feathers website.
No response yet from game warden yet either.

1. Throw gravel or sand in and use for weight over the wheels in the winter. Would have traction matriel if do get stuck. 2. Wadded up they make fair insulation also. 3. Use in place of tarps when camping. 4. Store sleeping bags and such, they are almost water proof. 5. Buy bulk deer (or other anima...

Bytes my ass sometimes... Today a "shooter" came in and claimed his reloads were getting "3350 fps with a 180 grain in a 300 WSM with xx.x grains of IMRxxxx." Now most folks know that the 300 WSM is a pet of mine, I really like it. So I was pretty sure he was blowing smoke. Tonig...

My "brother" in Texas, will shoot and leave a small piggy in the trap sometimes. Seems to really load up the trap with more boars. But does smell sometimes to high heck. So I have to believe that a little blood doesn't hurt anything for feral pigs. His usual bait is corn soaked in beer.......

John, had n't thought of using a 150 or lighter projectile. good call. am waiting for appt this friday before "shortening" the barrel, but am thinking of going to 18 to 20 inches... Gunsmith thinks 16 1/2 would be better for my needs right now, and the magnum can would still add 10 1/2 inc...

Re: cant we all just get along?
I hate to say it but... Sometimes I like the reminder. Example: I am playing with a Mare's Leg. It was orginally sold has a "handgun". I have already had a Law Enforcemnet officer try and tell me it is a "cut-down rifle". I also have changed the caliber to 454 Casull, and added a...

Re: adding a recoil pad to a Mare's Leg
Decided to go with a black shotgun style buttpad. Also, since I have "adjusted" this 45 Colt handgun to 454 Casull... rubber will keep but from digging into wrist. :) Again the shotgun style is shorter and doesn't have slots for "recoil" reduction, won't look like a real short sh...
