Re: Where do you get your SS tubing?
Well, I made a plug .004 bigger dia. and 3" long than the I.D. and pressed it through the tube to straighten it. It got within .008 of being straight but not good enough. I've made 4 orders of seamless tubing from online metals with none of it straight enough to make a suppressor. Now I ...

Re: Where do you get your SS tubing?
When working with tubing on the lathe this is what I do to reduce squeal and chatter. When cutting on the OD stuff a wet rag into the tube, packed in tight, and this will dramatically reduce chatter/squeal. When boring wrap the OD with a stiff modeling clay, 1/4 in is enough, then secure with a wra...

Re: Where do you get your SS tubing?
I use seamless pipe then turn and bore it to size.http://www.onlinemetals.com -CL What kind of boring bar & setup do you use for that? I tried a few different boring bars, placing a bunch of O rings around the tube OD, all kinds of different feed rates & RPM, feeding both directions, but no...

I received the tubing from Online Metals 1.625" OD x 0.065" Wall T-316. It is .006 out of round and in 9" .083 from straight all 24" that I bought. Capt, I am now looking for 1.625" OD x 0.065" Wall and will take you up on that offer if you have this or somethin...

Re: Where do you get your SS tubing?
Just called Online metals, they said all of the ss pipe is welded. Talked to 2 different people. They said the only seamless they carried was the ss tubing. At one time it was advertised as extruded pipe.I still have sticks of it what size are you looking for. -CL I received the tubing from Online ...

Re: 308 316 Stainless Clipped Cone Sealed build
I have done testing on 316 ss using an ATV battery, worked well enough that when I finish my form 1 that's the process I will use.
I use felt stretched over copper and salt water(water that will not dissolve any more salt).
It takes less then 30 seconds.

Re: New Design
The thing about "new designs" is that are hardly ever "new designs"...I bet Archimedes has the ancient Patent or papyrus somewhere on file! If you had not pointed out the photo with the sprue, I would have thought that those German baffles were hand welded on a tube. That design...

Re: New Design
These look to be cast. They are, and that for a product made like 70 years ago. I'll check but I thought these where bakelite. Gunny Now that ya mentioned it, that does look like bakelite, That would make them VERY light.................. Never thought about bakelite...... how long would they last?

Re: New Design
Spirals in general work well in the coaxial space created by some designs.I have used them as spacers and to control gas in integral ported suppressors. They have been used in some recent patents by Gregory Latka for pressure control. He also has a patent on one of the best so far use of spirals in a...

Re: Where do you get your SS tubing?
I have a pump shaft, it's 1 1/2" I could cut it on my little lathe but it was not easy, Which materials are pump shafts? it depends on what it was used for , if it was used in a high corrosive area it could be 316 or even Hastaloy , a lot are 416 though. if its magnetic its probably 416 , in s...

I machine mine from bar stock. 8) Machining pipe can be a pain in the ass. That would be a project, what material do you make your tubes from? 316L or 17-4 if its to be welded , I'd probably use 416 if I was gonna thread it. I have access to a lot of old pump shafts so its readily available to me o...
