Can the end user do anything other than looking through the barrel with the can mounted? Is there a more accurate way?silencertalk wrote:I think at most their obligation is to replace the barrel. You should check alignment the first time using a can on a new barrel.

Crimp die is already gone. At least there is a backorder option available now.
Wonder how long this will take? Weren't these a special run item?

Re: Baffle cleaning
I tried a traditional media tumbler one time to clean the baffles in my 22 suppressor. I gave it about 24 hours, very poor results. Really couldn't tell anything had been done. I just bought a rock tumbler that uses stainless pins and soap/warer. This thing really works well but it appears that it w...

Re: Lee dies
Would it ever be advisable to use their (or any other brand) crimp die on a bullet that does NOT have a cannelure? I've seen an advisory in reload books when using H110 powder in a 44 mag for example to use a heavy crimp to aid in uniform powder burn. Does this apply with bullets without the cannelu...

Re: Using stainless/brass media to clean baffles.
I am interested in the long term consequences of this method. When I worked in jewelry, tumbling had the benefit of significantly "work hardening" the metals. The tumbling can make metals brittle. I wonder if long term cleaning will have the same effect and if this can be detrimental to t...

Re: 300 AAC BLACKOUT FAQ
Q: What is the standard barrel length for 300 AAC BLACKOUT? A: The SAAMI standard is 16 inches instead of the normal 24 inches for other rifles cartridges. We felt that 24 inches was unrealistic, and would lead to inflated velocity numbers on factory ammo, if the ammo were reported for a long barre...

Is the 3-lug mount and the fixed barrel mount for the Octane-9 the same mount that's used on the the Trident? They look the same. Obviously, the booster is different.

I wonder if this explains why I am getting about 50 fps more than what's published in the Sierra book for their Whisper loads?

Re: 300 BLK initial results
I shot the same load at 100 yards yesterday. I was using a much better rest for this 10 shot group. For reference, the red circle is two inches. This was shot using mixed 223 brass reformed into 300 BLK. Metered powder charge. (not weighing each one) http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h121/mswildfowl...

300 BLK initial results
I finally got my upper this week. Here's a pic of a 10 shot group I fired from the 60 yard line at my local pistol range today from a make-shift bench. This group is significantly better than what I get with my 9mm AR15 from the same distance. This multi-shot group is at least 25% the size of the 9m...

Ask and ye shall receive: Check out the latest Brownells "1911" catalog (number 7) on page 8. They've got a Nighthawk Custom suppressor series featured. Caption states that pistol is for use with AAC sound suppressor. I guess Brownells couldn't take the pressure they were getting from arou...

any suggestions on plinking bullet source?
I've seen some talk of folks using "pull down" mil-surplus bullets in the 300 Blackout for plinking. I'd like to find something in the 110-125 grain range rather than 150-168 if possible so I can more closely duplicate my other super-sonic loads that I'll be varminting with. What I don't u...

Have you had a chance to chronograph that load? I'd like to know what 16 inches of barrel length makes over the Thompson Contender 10 inch barrel loads in my book.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Advice on 300 BLK vs .44 Mag
Anyone know if the fast twist (1:11) .44 mag barrels are accurate with 240-300 gr cast boolits Best mine will do, is 2 1/2" at 100 yds, on a good day, with 240 gr XTP's. 300 BLK will be more accurate for sure,,, I can't seem to get 77/44 any more accurate (consistently) than that either. I'm w...

Re: 44 mag sub loads. TO CRIMP or NOT??
I've noticed when using faster burn pistol powders, crimp doesn't really seem to matter, but too much crimp can affect the point of impact. I do crimp when using Blue dot or 296/110, etc. With the 296 in particular, my 100 yard groups open up if I use less than a heavy crimp.

I thought you were asking about the 147 grain load in that link you provided? Sierra shows a max of 19 for both powders for their long OAL Encore/Whisper load.poke_53 wrote:So 18gr for 125 should be safe huh.

Last fall at my range for a couple weeks in a row we picked up mil-surplus 45 brass with head stamps from the 40's. I never could figure out who was shooting it to ask if I could buy some.
