Re: Baffle types and small / larger diameter tubes-
In general, the Omega and K baffles are pressure driven. They work well in pistol cans that are limited in diameter and length. When you start increasing the total volume of the can, they begin to lose effeciency. Now, this does not mean they get louder. But you get diminshing returns rapidly. If I ...

SO glad I did this! Those last two got a good cleaning. Are those an example of older vs newer Evo cores? They look different. Can't wait to get mine back. Been doing some reloading for it  Yup old versus new Evo baffles. The newer ones are like mini TiRant baffles! Pretty sweet! -B Actually,...

Re: I love Craigslist and my new (old) lathe. 1932 southben
Wow, nice haul! Love the old iron. As you have noted, there are no ball bearings on the machine. It has babbitt bearings. Babbitt is mainly lead or tin and the bearings are poured in place around the spindle while it is assembled in the headstock. The disadvantage is your rpm's are limited. The adva...

Re: Anyone know what this AWC/KAC can is?
I don't know if Knights ever made one, but Qual-a-tec made something like this for the navy. It was called, drum roll please, ' the sleeve'. It was an extra tube that went over the SD silencer on an MP5. It stayed collapsed until the user fired a round. The gas pressure then extended the sleeve to g...

I am going to make a guess as to how the malware ended up on Paul's computer. In another thread he stated that he had just loaded a new copy of Inventor 2011(3d solid modeling). Seeing as how Paul probably doesn't have $7000 laying around to purchase said program, he got it from a crack site. Proble...

Re: Titanium silencer
The issue with Ti is a max temperature limit. Most grades of Ti begin to oxidize between 7-800 degrees. As long as you keep the can under 700 degrees, you can do what ever you want with it. I believe YHM stated that their new stuff was rated for up to 60 rds continous full auto. After that you will ...

So, I take it these are quieter, correct? They look very nice.
The method you used to add the mouse hole is unique. I like it.
I would add a little geometry to the rear face like jimmym40a2 suggested as well.

Re: Tips for single point threading 3al-2.5v titanium?
The tool you linked from Shars is another single point tool for a lathe, not a mill. I have used the thread mill that cncswiss1 linked from MSC, and it works very well. Quite sharp for a carbide tool. I have used one for everything from aluminum to titanium and it has exceeded my expectations. One t...

Re: Believe it or Not, Frequency Shifting Works!
So, the limiting factor is the software. Still, not bad at all for measuring suppressed gunshots. Most of the hobby meters out there will give very low numbers because they simply can't record the first microseconds of the suppressed shot.
Your setup is at least giving believable numbers.

If you can use the space to add another baffle, I would. Maybe shorten the other baffles a bit as well.

Re: How many holes in the front of the K baffle is best?
I can't imagine more not being better. Tactical innovations used to offer their Tac-65 with five baffles. Now it has six. Thats not to say that's all they did. But they must have found out it is quieter than the older model.

LavaRed, I have followed your posts on this and have a question. I looked up the specs on the microphone you are using and am wondering if you know the rise time of this mic? http://www.tacticalinc.com/images/productextras/suptac65-57-500.jpg The picture above shows K's with slanted sidewalls. The rear cut is a scoop that creates a ramp on one side of the bore of the baffle. The other cut creates a mousehole in the cone where it meets the rear face of the baffle. This m...

Re: How many holes in the front of the K baffle is best?
While mss' baffles are K's, they do not include a slanted sidewall. The assymetrical features are what make the K quiet.
His baffle simply vents gas directly into the coaxial volume created by the cone spacer without affecting the gas flowing through the boreline of the suppressor.

Re: Bolt together suppressor?? (no welds or threaded endcaps
You will have to reduce the tensile calculations to allow for the much reduced strength of stainless screws. They are comparable to grade 2 steel screws. Almost all are made from 304 stainless which is pretty soft. You may be able to source some 410 or 17-4 cap screws which will be much stronger as ...

I suspect that guys are really using grade 9 CWSR titanium tubing instead but, we'll see. I will bet money they are. Grade 9 CWSR is available in seamless for a fraction of the price of grade 5. Mechanical properties are very good. Grade 9 has 105KSI vs. grade 5 with 120KSI. AAC uses grade 9 tubing...

You have ejection port noise. Maybe check the port size in the barrel. Also, try a heavier buffer. Extra mass will slow the carrier and slightly delay the opening of the bolt.

Most Scarabs were stainless tube and endcaps with aluminum internals. Some were built with all stainless construction. If it is all stainless then it is rated for full auto. Find out which one you have been offered. They are all sealed design, so no taking it apart unless you want to force it apart....

Re: Best way to thread a Ruger MKII Barrel
As others have already alluded, the barrels on MkII's are generally off in some way. They use a crush fit when threading the barrel to the receiver and a ton of torque. Most run out quite a bit. wolf had the best suggestion with the picture in his post. A double spider can not only correct the runou...

No, that is a cutaway of a HK can used on the MP5 Navy and the P9 pistol. It was designed by Qual-A-Tec in the 80's, and the rights were given to HK for mass manufacture.
