Re: Beretta M71-my first threaded barreled firearm-what now..
Not much appreciable difference in noise reduction between a bore of 0.25" and 0.28" for .22lr subsonics. At 0.25" your alignment had better be perfect, or accuracy will likely suffer and you may easily get baffle strikes. 0.30" is still probably pretty good, but at about 0.32&qu...

Re: Brand new to silencers, some intro questions
No advice based on experience, no. But if it were me wanting a can for a CMMG Banshee, I'd go with the round can, as the offset-axis rectangular can would look odd. I can see the Osprey looking appropriate on a short barrelled Kriss Vector but otherwise it seems most appropriate as a semi-auto pisto...

Re: Brand new to silencers, some intro questions
That's right. A decoupling device is only for use on reciprocating barrels. The Banshee appears to have a fixed barrel (can't see why it would need to move) so a piston is not necessary, and may even cause problems.

Re: Brand new to silencers, some intro questions
A 'piston' also known as a 'Neilson device' is one of several designs comprised of several metal parts with a spring inside, mounted between the barrel and the silencer. Also known as a 'booster.' With Browning type pistol actions this is essential, with rare exceptions being ultra-lightweight compa...

Re: hole pattern on K baffle design
Seems more of an OCD thing, those tabs and matching cuts for maintaining alignment. Of course who wouldn't want them if they were easy? Seems to offer a bit of a professional touch. I've just not heard any difference in orientations, good baffles seem vastly more important.

Re: hole pattern on K baffle design
I've seen many over the years suggesting they should be flipped in an alternating pattern, and many others saying they should all line up on the same side. The newer notion of the DHC works around the question by using a pair of symmetrical clips... but then I suppose one could ask should they alter...

Re: Measuring Sound Levels
Thanks for clarifying RidgeRunner, I wasn't completely sure I followed the reason for your initial post but this confirms your meaning. For relative metering utility, a cheap SPL meter works just fine. Been using mine for a half dozen years and find it very handy for comparison between ammunition ty...

Re: How did I do? (baffle design)
Can you point me to a study showing Aguila SSS keyholing or even being less accurate than bulk ammo? The tests I have watched all show reasonable accuracy and round holes even out past 100 yards. Mostly with 1:16" twist. I do understand they recommend something like a 22" barrel to give i...

Re: budget suppressor for short barrel 300blk
If you're not able to machine a cone to fit into the end cap, then sure, leave the somewhat longer space between the last baffle and that conical end cap. The smaller exit hole matching those in the baffles will help in noise reduction. The first end cap with the much larger hole may as well not be ...

Re: budget suppressor for short barrel 300blk
Stuff another cone in that endcap, with a bit of a longer skirt on it to keep it halfway between the previous cone and the exit hole, or with a step cut into the endcap to retain it. Make the exit hole in the cap a bit smaller. Those will get you a little bit quieter. Looks a bit short to me for rea...

Re: Would like help making K baffles
If you do decide to go with K baffles (allowing that ECCO is undoubtedly correct), taking an hour or more to poke around at the links in the completed build thread will be an education. Especially the last pages of the thread, as a lot of the earlier images have been lost due to various image hostin...

Re: Not enough barrel!!!!
I'm curious how the crown gets finished when counter-boring for an adapter like this, or even more so when something like a 10-22 bull barrel gets used as a short barrel with integrally machined suppressor as we've seen displayed a couple of times on these forums. Seems getting the finish just right...

Re: assembling a suppressor
ECCO Machine on Facebook is one, but that's getting a bit serious, more of a recore type of guy as his baffles are state of the art. https://www.facebook.com/ECCOmachine/ I mean, your baffles no doubt quiet things somewhat. It's just a bit obvious that they could use improvement. Looking more closel...

Re: assembling a suppressor
First of all, if you don't have the know-how and manual skills to turn those into finished K baffles, find someone who does and pay them to do it. Your suppressor will significantly improve in performance. I see waist ports, but no face scoop opposite those vents to push pressure across the bore and...

I have no idea. What I do know is that a lot of Canadian shooters are rather openly excited about what sorts of fun accessories we'll be seeing in the coming months. Night vision stuff and scopes, who knows? Pretty cool change if it's going to work out that we have access to the stuff we see America...

Can't offer any help with the technical suppressor questions. As for pictures, you'll need to upload whatever images you like to an online hosting service and then use whatever mechanisms that service has in place to share a direct link to that image. Paste such a link in line with the text of your ...

Re: barrel porting question
Along similar lines, a very interesting H&K prototype being discussed on the Forgotten Weapons channel today. Thing has some kind of valve alternately blocking or opening what looks like maybe 5 large ports in the bottom half of the barrel, barely ahead of the chamber. Ian said it was designed t...

Indeed, Stan1's pair of replicas (one for display, one a working unit in better steels) is very impressive. His videos letting us hear it in action seem very impressive, both for suppression efficiency and accurate shooting. Seems it metered at just under 124dB, with .32ACP. https://www.dropbox.com/...

Re: barrel porting question
I wouldn't quite class it as pretty darn good. My ears are overly sensitive, painfully so when it comes to things like ambulance sirens or construction air nailers as I walk by a site, so custom hearing protection is the norm for shooting unsuppressed even with something like CCI Quiet out of a long...

Re: barrel porting question
Makes sense if you're using chore boy to keep the tube clean. In the case of my 9mm integral that's not relevant really, as the can is one piece, permanently assembled. The larger hole at the back is turned into a profile which matches the front of my receiver and nestles fairly snug into that, prov...

Re: barrel porting question
Yeah, my experience with copper mesh some years back was similar. Didn't seem to make a difference in noise level, and cleaning it was just nasty. Ended up tossing it instead, unravelling a new scrubbing pad and twisting and wrapping that. Several cycles, maybe 150 rounds of .22lr each time, before ...

Re: barrel porting question
Finally committed to porting a 9mm barrel today to scrub a bit of borderline transonic velocity off my 147gr of choice. Winchester JHP were averaging 1,100fps out of a 9" barrel but the odd one was going to the mid-1,120's, coming close to not sounding good and flirting with the accuracy issues...

Re: building custom buffer for suppressed 9mm AR?
While something like radial delayed blowback would be nifty in a 9mm PCC (something ECCO suggested in another thread where I'd mentioned something about this subject), unfortunately retrofitting such a system to an existing carbine might prove... challenging. So with mine I'll be working along simil...

Are you referring to this one? https://youtu.be/fyBNJ_31uQc Pretty darn quiet, even allowing for the inevitable camera microphone cutting out on every shot.
