I talked to Craig at Rapid Fire about doing this transfer around April-May when I sent the gun off to be built. It took this long to get my AOW back from the 'smith and I really hadn't had any contact with ORF since the summer. Imagine my surprise this afternoon when I found out they are damn near o...

ATTENTION!! Rapid Fire - Troy, OH

Call them at 937-332-0833 and listen to the recorded message. I just got off the phone with Rapid Fire. It looks like they are shutting down a good portion of their operation. The retail store, tech support, machining, and manufacturing departments have shut down. Not sure if this is permanent or no...

I'm not in the gun industry. I am in the tool & die industry. Different, but the same, if you will. I've learned that in my business, rumors are almost never completely true or completely untrue. We heard of this brewing weeks ago but some of the details were a little bit off. That all might hav...

I bought a pretty good book on slings: Service Rifle Slings by Glen D. Zediker.

It's mostly geared to Service Rifle competition shooters. It has tons of pics and makes it easy to see how to set-up and shoot with different kinds of slings. Completely worth the 15 bucks it cost.

This summer at the National Matches I bought a bunch of RR flat-top upper receivers, complete with forward assist and EJ port cover for $45.00 each. Normal retail is $145.00. There were boxes full of uppers and all had the red reject tags still attached, so it was easy to tell what the problem was w...

ONLY buy a Colt original. No conversions. Any money you save up front is lost on resale value. Also who knows how good the conversion is. At the very least you would have to blueprint the conversion and make sure it is to print. That is hard to do over the interweb. I'm certainly not an expert on t...

Do some consider welded and "cleaned up" seamless? Please explain. Unfortunately, yes. Can't tell you how many people get 'duped' into thinking that because there isn't a visible seam that the tube is seamless. Wrong. If the tube was ever welded in any way, then it is not seamless, regard...

Ops, Inc. M-4S Mini-Can

I posted over in the "Ops, Inc." section and haven't gotten much response, so I thought I'd try again here for better exposure. Does anyone have experience with the Ops M-4S suppressor? I think it's a newer suppressor (it's not listed on the Ops site). It's tiny, light, short and fairly lo...

Pre-made targets are the way to go - unless you have access to a shop with the right equipment and are willing to make a bunch of targets. We recently bought some 48" x 48" x 3/8" thick pieces of AR500 plate and the cost was over $400 each. You should not oxy-fuel or plasma cut this p...

Hands down get the brake. They are louder unsuppressed. However, the muzzle brake will absorb a significant portion of the blast and help to prolong the life of the suppressor. On that short barrel that is a HUGE benefit to me. That is the true benefit of the brake here; not to control muzzle climb...

so how they get the burrs outta the barrel? Don't make any burrs in the first place, use a "Hole Popper." http://www.ganeshmachinery.com/index.asp?pageID=140&prodID=35 It's basically a very slow speed EDM "drill." Instead of a drill bit, it uses a hollow consumable brass ele...

OPS M4-S Mini-can

I have been looking for a small & light weight thread-on CQC type can, possibly considering an AAC Ranger 2. I am currently shooting a 11.5" barrel with a Noveske KX3 "flaming pig" flash suppressor. While cruising around the ADCO site I came upon the little Ops M4-S suppressor. Th...

Gas, ion or plasma nitriding is a surface treatment for hardening. It would definitely make the barrel more wear resistant. I don't really think it will do anything for corrosion resistance?

Weight of centerfire rifle suppressors

I'm designing/building a .223 rifle suppressor from 316L & 17-4PH stainless on a Form 1. My intention from the outset has been to try and accurately as possible duplicate the quality and performance of a commercially constructed suppressor. The overall length is 7.250" and max. outside diam...

I run a machine shop, so I feel somewhat self-qualified to offer my 2 cents on your secnario. 1.) QA sounds non-existant at this shop. Each and every barrel definitely should have been inspected post machining and the problem caught well before they ever reached the customer. 2.) He as the vendor ha...
