Re: 1 trust copy with multiple Form 4s??
I recently sold a car and am going to use some of the cash to make a big NFA submission of 4 items. I have used my trust for 2 purchases thus far this year (neither approved yet). I have read some say to put each Form in a separate envelope. So does that mean: 1. I need to write 4 separate checks f...

Re: Attack on the First Amendment
That's more than an attack. That might as well have been a repeal of the first amendment altogether. After all the first amendment wasn't put in place so we can talk about the weather. It was put there so we can show our grievances with our government. And the Second amendment wasn't put there for ...

What you are describing is a drawn out explanation of the term R&D. It's a common description of research flying (flight test) in aviation. Yes. It applies to R&D in many industries--especially those that don't or can't use computers in any significant manner, or where the costs of a failur...

Re: Fluid Dynamics CAD Tools for Silencersmithing
While I continue to wait for my NFA stamps, would someone be kind enough to provide me with some links to tools or techniques or any other advice on how to get started with my own design investigations? Even comparing existing designs could be interesting. Thanks! Research a bit on this forum and y...

Re: CNC milling questions
Basically, I want to be able to: - Make stamps / dies - Make embossed text in wood / metal - Make signs - Engrave stuff Unless I'm missing something, I don't think you need a $25,000 machine to do that? I have a cheap Chinese Sieg mini-mill and lathe that I got from Harbor Freight. Other retailers ...

Re: Cutting threads
Wolf, you correctly warn against using the threading dial. Using my hand crank on the headstock spindle allows me to accurately disconnect, wind back, position forward, and repeat. I once turned down a couple of Carlson Beretta/Benelli Mobil turkey shotgun choke tubes to make thin wall tubes for my...

I hope I don't die of old age before I get the permission slips necessary to exercise my 2nd Amendment "right." It actually took the BATFE a few weeks after USPS delivery was confirmed for my Form 1s to cash my check on April 10th. I fully expect to wait about a year. By that time, I will ...

Re: NFA TRUST Turnaround time
In the interest of keeping my two From 1 applications turnaround time to a minimum, I'd like to confirm that, although my wife and I are both Grantors and Trustees, only I need to file a Certification of Compliance with 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(5)(b), (5330.20). Also, given that I fully expect the bureaucra...

Of those two, the PM1027 would be vastly better for your purposes and significantly easier to use (power cross feed, geared head). Honestly, if I had known about it I would have bought that one over the G0602. Wow--yes!!! I may have to get one of those PM1027s. It has several things that you someti...

Re: "BiCore" option with Paul's 7.5K .223 MonoCore design
What caliber Are you running this on? Look into 7068 aluminum it's head and shoulders stronger and harder than even 7075 I'll look it up. Heat resistance seems to be the biggest deficiency with 7075, relative to alloy or SS. Hi, <snip> I use a trusted geometry for aligment. I don’t like screw/unscr...

"BiCore" option with Paul's 7.5K .223 MonoCore design
I was looking over Paul's plans and thinking about building the can with a 3AL-2.5V titanium tube and light weight 7075-T6511 core. http://www.silencertalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=743597#p743597 It struck me that the expansion chamber / ported tube section of the monocore could be machined in stai...

Now we must tolerate half a year of rights infringement to exercise something that's "protected" by the Constitution? I think it's all part of Obama's promise to take gun control (disarmament of the public) "under the radar."jta wrote:This thread makes me sad.

Re: Aluminum for .223 Can
What I do is drill a whatever diameter hole you plan on using in stock vertically in a mill (I use our HAAS VF-2YT because it has thru-spindle coolant and our lathe's high pressure coolant just leaks out from the tool holder) then put the piece in the lathe, use a live center in one end and hold on...

I always say buy as big as you can store and afford. After that a minilathe is a perfect addition. It is a major pita to chuck up a small part in a big lathe. A mini lathe is a perfect compliment. I agree. I'd like to go as big as I can, after an upcoming relocation and move, but I also wish I'd bo...

Re: Integral P38/P1 for best performance : length ratio?
OK, how about this approach. The registered silencer has to be the length you register it at. The barrel length is irrelevant from the law's point of view. So, you can go with a muzzle can and cut& thread the barrel a little longer than you think you need. Then trim back 'till there is no more ...

Re: Integral P38/P1 for best performance : length ratio?
That sounds like a good start. You have 'till the stamp comes to think about it. In fact there is no time limit after the stamp comes (I think there is no limit) anyway, you have plenty of time to decide what you will do. As long as you design a rock solid, square mount then scre on should be fine....

I have an HF mini with a stretched 16" bed. You can make a bunch of stuff on the HF minis (lathe and mill) but they can become major projects themselves in order to gain the functionality that is customary in professional tools. Some enthusiasts call the minis "kits." I've made countl...
