Re: What's a hoplon?
"hoplon" is just silencerco's marketing name for the design. It means nothing beyond that. here it is, pretty straight forward - http://www.tenpoundmonkey.com/web/hoplon.jpg Did they thin the middle of the spacer to take weight out?!? If so, I guess you can tell patrick his idea would hav...

Probably the people with 10.5 and under 5.56 barrels shooting m4-2000s with their flash hiders specifically and posting pictures of the blast baffle.ThaDoubleJ wrote:so how did this hoplon baffle come about?

Re: Please critique my 300BLK design
Can Ti be welded to a barrel? Edit: Nope Why are you welding anything to the barrel? A blind pin is essentially a set screw into a divot that is welded over preventing someone from removing whatever the pin is holding in place . . . you don't have the design of the rear cap you are using but you sh...

Re: 22/5.7 Options
Suppressed supersonic 5.7 is loud.
Every can I've metered with 5.7 has been right around 130db in a pistol length barrel which is just under what the top 5.56 cans meter.
I really don't consider that "hollyweird quiet" but its certainly do-able in a self-defense/night-stand situation.

Re: Please critique my 300BLK design
I wouldn't put AL in there either. Maybe right now all you want to shoot are subs, but maybe down the road you'll want to play with some Lehigh Defense controlled chaos or Barnes TAC-TX bullets and a permanently attached AL suppressor won't be what you want for that. Very true. If I was doing an in...

Re: new builder help
You could potentially eliminate a front end cap on a .22LR or possibly centerfire pistol round if the tube threads onto the rear and you have some type of precise/gas check/o-ring at the front.
It would be a pain but it could be *possible*

Re: 17-4 ph baffles on a 10.5 sbr?
Stellite was designed for jet nozzles. Actually Stellite is far older than that, it was first made in the early 1900's for use in stainless cutlery (!). Talk about overkill, although I'd love to have a knife like that in my belt... There are several different grades of Stellite/Cobalt. Of which, St...

Re: 17-4 ph baffles on a 10.5 sbr?
Yes, 17-4 will erode fairly quickly on a 10.5 (assuming 5.56?) inconel does a decent job, Silencerco is using stellite blast baffles but i don't know if the Saker has been out long enough to see real world results. So this actually leads to a secondary question. I contacted my suppressor manufactur...

machining looks good . . . I ran the small 1.25"x5" 22lr shown in the pics on my 10.5" full auto m4 for 5 30rd mags for some fun testing, keep in mind all the baffles are 7068 alum. that would have destroyed most rimfire cans on the market. And it didn't yours huh? You mag dumped 5 ti...

Re: What causes this type surface finish
Everyone else pretty much touched on it . . . light cuts don't ever leave a great finish unless the material is very hard IMO, like above 30 rockwell. The worst is 4000 series chromoly. Your finish pass pretty much needs to be in the .015-.020 DOC range and ~200sfm+ to get that nice mirror-like fin...

Re: 22 monocore question-baffle count vs volume?
As to your question about baffle count versus volume, I'd say there is a happy medium somewhere. Slanting baffles will likely offer you better suppression than a series of larger round holes right up the middle. Too closely spaced baffles in .22 gives mediocre performance . . . too far apart and yo...

Re: Tungsten as a Baffle Material in rifle suppressors
I was going to hard face some baffles but I had no way of grinding the bore if it was occluded by the hard facing wire EDM That would be preferable. If you have access to such a wonderful piece of machinery Hey now, if you have the $$$ for DMLS baffles made of stellite you surely could afford someo...

If you are going to go through the trouble of sintering anything, it might as well be a cobalt-chromium alloy like stellite.
There's a reason GE has been using it for jet nozzles for years.

I think most guys use roughly the same size ball end as the bore or in .22LR - .250" ball end (despite the bore potentially being bigger).
Aggressive, in my opinion only, is the angle at which the gas sees primarily. The vent is part of it but the angle does most of the work.
