Re: Aftermarket pistol barrels (.45ACP & threaded)
How much fitting did you need on your Kimber, and what model was it? Reading through the reviews on the StormLake barrel at midway, there are several folks that said it dropped straight in, no modification needed. FWIW, I have a Custom II

Re: Aftermarket pistol barrels (.45ACP & threaded)
Thinking through this again, I think the way to go would be to get a SWR Octane with the .578x28 piston, along with a spare M16x1LH piston. Then I could get the factory USP threaded barrel (M16x1), and the StormLake 1911 barrel (.578x28). It works out to be about the same $. The money saved on getti...

Re: Aftermarket pistol barrels (.45ACP & threaded)
PS: I just got off the phone with Kimber customer service/sales, and they said that they don't sell threaded barrels. They sell them on complete pistols, but not as an oem part? They also sell every part and conversion kits, but no threaded bbls...... weird. Jarvis KKM Barsto no particular o...

Re: Aftermarket pistol barrels (.45ACP & threaded)
Really? Where can you get Kimber threaded barrels? If possible I'd like to have both barrels threaded the same pitch, and USP appear to only come with metric threads.

Aftermarket pistol barrels (.45ACP & threaded)
I'm familiar with the usual suspects, at least their names... Barsto, Storm Lake, EFK Firedragon, Jarvis. Are there any others? Anyone have first hand experience and/or recommendations? I'm looking for quality and ease of use. ie: Drop it in, screw on the can and shoot. No fitting required. Looking ...

Re: SpecWar 762 and 5.45?
Hmmm... Hadn't thought of that route. Pull off the front sight block and thread the barrel directly. I have a red dot sight, so the fsb is redundant at this point.

SpecWar 762 and 5.45?
I'm about to pull the trigger on a SpecWar 7.62 and have a couple questions. First, are there any issues with running 5.45x39 through it? Assume 16"+ bbl. Secondly, assuming no issues with the round, what is the best way to mount it on the 24mm muzzle brake threads? To have it re-threaded 5/8&q...

Re: Trailboss is off the menu... other powders (for subsonic .30 cal)?
Yeah, I didn't mention that above, these rounds didn't cycle the action either, I had to do it manually each time. Not too bad considering it can be done with the left hand on the CETME. I didn't expect them to either, the bolt and spring on that thing is pretty dang heavy. Also, FWIW, there was abs...

Did a little exploratory loading today. Rifle: CETME 7.62x51 Bbl: ~18” with ~1:12" twist Powder: IMR Hi-skor 700x - 8.0 grains Bullet: 147grain FMJBTmil-surp Primer: Mil-surp Brass: Mil-surp The mil-surp components came from Indian OFV 97 ammo that I picked up years ago for dirt cheap. I pulled...

Trailboss is off the menu... other powders (for subsonic .30 cal)?
So, it appears that unless you're sitting on a stash you squirreled away, there isn't any Trailboss to be had. Given that, has anyone had experience using other more readily available pistol powders for subsonic loads? I have HP38/231, Hi-skor 700x, Unique and can get my hands on Titegroup if necess...

Re: HR21 ‘NRA Members’ Gun Safety Act of 2013
Rubbish. Additionally, from what I'm reading elsewhere, the NRA has nothing to do with this other than the fact that the sponsor, Jim Moran (D-Virginia) used their name in the bill. http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-113hr21ih/pdf/BILLS-113hr21ih.pdf I'm still reviewing it, but so far I see it is a ...

Re: Bowers Vers 50?
You can take it apart. It is discouraged because more people screw stuff up by taking cans apart then by shooting them. That is why he will open, clean, replace worn parts (or upgrade) all for the cost of return shipping. Bowers stands behind everything they make 110%. BTW, I contacted them directl...

Re: Bowers Vers 50?
His page says .510 and smaller and UP TO 2200fps, then why would you ask 2700 fps is ok? Seems he made it pretty clear. I mistakenly underestimated the pressure generated by a .308Win. I thought that pushing a 325gr round ~2000fps would be in the same neighborhood as pushing a 168gr round up to 270...

Re: Bowers Vers 50?
Sorry for bumping this older thread up, but it appears info on the Vers 50 is somewhat limited. My intent is to get a Bowers Vers 50 so I can use it on a .45-70 lever gun. Looking at Bowers' info at subgun.org (page 7) they say that it is suitable for all calibers .510 and smaller up to 2200fps velo...

What exactly are the examiners examining? Are they running a background check on you? That it is legal to possess at your address? That your check is good? Is the long wait due to a backlog or something in the actual examination process?

Any chance you can find a heavier aftermarket recoil spring? Perhaps Wolff carries something suitable.
