Newb question: How do boosters work?

Does someone have a link to a graphic that illustrates how a booster works? I understand that it's some sort of spring that helps the slide move, but I'm not really sure about the details and I like to understand what all the parts do... My first can will be .22LR but I'll probably look for somethin...

Well, it's a good thing they don't regulate the First Amendment the way they do the Second Amendment, or we would have had to pay about $500.00 to read this story three years from now in the only newspaper in town! Rich in New Mexico.
