Re: 300 BLK PDWSD Initial test footage
I test fired the PDW today, single shot, gas system closed. Results were disappointing. I have no metering equipment, but it sounded about as loud as my .45ACP pistol can. I was expecting more like suppressed .22LR performance. Test footage: http://vid12.photobucket.com/albums/a204/Verasofi/MVI_024...

AAC Honey badger  I was just thinking that. Stack looks great. Mill table has... character  It's welded shut? Did you test any designs prior? I'm working on a similar platform. Standard carbine extension and reflex with K's though. Primary round to be 240gr cast and coated. Have you foun...

Re: All New 300 BLK PDWSD
I like the stock. Did you take something existing & modify to work or just fab the whole thing up? I took a Gunsmoke Industries 4" Buffer tube. Then I threw away everything but the spring and tube, and had everything else (buffer, guide rod, etc) manufactured to my specs. The stock is full...

Re: All New 300 BLK PDWSD
The suppressor weighs in at exactly 2lbs. I did make the stock.
The PDW weighs 6.5lbs unloaded and unsuppressed, 8 lbs loaded with subs, and 10lbs with the suppressor installed.

Re: PBS-1 Style Form 1 Build - First Time
Inconel x750 or 718 if you can source it. It's a metal. A nickel alloy, to be more precise. It's very resistant to high temperatures and erosion. It's been proven in baffles before.

I've just completed a 30 caliber can with 0.35" bore at the baffles. This is the minimum I'd dare go.

Re: Diameter choice and design considerations
2" is way too large. 1.5" will serve you perfectly. Also, FRP is mainly caused by excess blast chamber volume, amongst other things. So, you should keep your blast chamber volume at around 1/3 of total internal volume. 1/6 if it's a rimfire. But, if you are going to mount this on a lever-a...

Re: Maintaining 60 degrees vs more baffles
I've had good results with 45 deg. K's with subsonic rounds. WR is right. However, I've found that 53.7 degrees is actually better than a true 60. And easier. I'll likely be doing all subs all the time as I shoot 99% reloads and they are all subs. Why would 53.7 degrees be any easier or harder? 53....

Ah to live in the gunpowder valley fishing in the locks and on the Housatonic river again. If you can fashion a treadle lathe to make a round plug and hand carve wood, wax,or clay anyone using lost wax can reproduce these complex baffles. The question yet to be answered is will they be effective in o...

Re: Rules of thumb for suppressor design
Well, then again there are suppressors with wipes, where the bore is smaller than the bullet, so even that is not 100% fixed.

Re: Rules of thumb for suppressor design
+1 Indeed factoid remembered from LavaRed's past great posts. In addition this rule was dependent on baffle topology, spacing, and tube diameter versus length ratio. For example the classic Parker Hale 1930's .22 dimensions were as best remembered: I.D. .75" (US pennies fit in),length ~ 6.5&qu...

Historian can you please explain the blast chamber 1/3 formula? Is it in a 10" tube blast chamber length should be 3.33" ? I have never seen or heard of a blast chamber measurement formula only a formula for internal volume capacity.Thank you Years ago I came up with that rule, and it alw...

Silencer_kid, with all due respect, I don't think you really know what you're talking about. Normally I refrain from arguments with other people, but, I did study engineering, and I was rather good at statistics. I believe before you continue making a fool of yourself you'd be best advised to inform...

Re: Rules of thumb for suppressor design
You'll find that so far, the only rule of thumb that's universally agreed upon is that the bore hole should be of a larger diameter than the largest caliber intended to pass through the suppressor.
Also, note that I am not joking.

Wow! Do those posts bring back some memories! Also, I've been out of the loop for quite a while! In those three years, a lot has changed. There's a bunch of dead ends that I have forgotten, and a lot of successes that I have set in stone, probably to the detriment of my experimentation. And I have o...

Re: 300 BLK design
For your rear endcap, you could remove the little holes, which as stated will probably get clogged, and instead make the endcap thinner, with a little "neck" for the barrel threads. This reduces weight. Or it can even result in a shorter suppressor. Right now your endcaps look to be about ...
