Re: Washers as wipers?

I'm using the steel wipers as blast baffles to take the majority of the wear, the rest of the can will have normal baffles.

Washers as wipers?

As I'm designing my form 1 .22 suppressor. I've read the ATF letter that says non-manufactures may replace wipers in suppressors. Can I design my suppressor to use steel washers as wipers in the blast baffle of the monocore? Since this form 1 is a one shot deal, I'd like to have something in the fro...

Wow, those look very professionally made. Good work.

I think I will go with the single end cap design after seeing all of these that worked fine that way. So back to CAD I go.

Re: Comments on monocore before I machine.

Jim Yes it does call it out many times but the patent is for the baffles, there is a separate patent for the clam shells, it is still pending as far as I know but its called MPC technology. Just because it is integral to what is claimed doesn't meant there isn't ANOTHER patent that covers that aspe...

I'm not trying to be a stick in the mud, but did you get silencerco permission to produce this patented design for personal use? Looks nice. What cnc mill are you using and what controll software if you don't mind telling? I drew this up from scratch in CAD. It doesn't look anything like silencerco...

I got it, but how can I have variable tension to hold the tube in place over time if the rear cap is fixed in place?

Historian: Yep, I can go longer if needed. What advantage would 6.5" give? I'll be using this on a semi auto so I don't want to create so much additional back pressure that more noise comes out of the breech. MCKNBRD: The end cap is there to clamp the tube in place. My intent is to screw the re...

Comments on monocore before I machine.

This is my approved form 1 .22 design. My CAD won't show threads: The barrrel muzzle end cap is 304SS and has 1/2x28 threads on the inside for the barrel, and 11/16x28 threads on the outside to connect to the monocore. The exit end cap is aluminum and is also threaded 11/16x28 and will thread into t...

Re: 5.56mm Form 1 Suppressor Construction Pics

Wicked, thanks for that. Again, the can looks great. I know a lot of people get into Form1 cans trying to save money, and without a machine shop like the ones you have access to it just makes NO SENSE. I try explaining that sometimes and it seems some people just straight up can't hear it. People n...

Re: MythBusters asks us for help

I'm glad they didn't use the sparrow. I don't see .22's in most movies as the suppressed gun being used. It's generally exactly what they tested a 9mm or .45 . Sure, it could have been better, but did they accomplish the goal, and give suppressors a good report? Yep.

Re: Lathe question

Do you have a mill? If so, put a chuck on your mill table. Chuck up your piece of stock. Use a co-ax indicator to center the stock under the spindle. Drill your hole with a center drill. Using this method you can get exceptional accuracy.

Re: Threading a tube on 7x12 mini lathe..

If you really can't find access to a larger lathe. Consider using a steady rest. You can make your own like they did here: http://www.fignoggle.com/workshop/artic ... rest-day-1

You probably don't need a follow rest, so it might be a bit easier.

It's generally a bad idea to shoot a live projectile when you don't know where it is going to land.

Complex != Better. Pretty != Better. Hard to machine != Better. Unique != Better. What does == better? Design that accomplishes a goal. In the case of silencers, disrupting expanding gas. That's all there is to it. Kiwi: Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all saying that your design won't work well. I w...

For me it's not a matter of wear, it's a matter of being destroyed when I cross thread it. 7075 is great, but is deforms easily and in my experience does not hold up well when I use it in a fine thread. Like Bowen said 304 machines fine, and even I have a hard time hurting fine threads of stainless....
