licensed reamer Screw'em. Look at the 300, it wasn't JDJones who made it popular, it was freely available reamers and finally a standardized round that gave us the availability wee see today. Nor do I believe he was the first to make such a round. Everything (or at least something very similar) has...

Re: strength of K's
Every k will have to be strong, not just the blast baffle. Correct, in fact the last baffle will need to be the strongest as it gets the thrust of the entire stack. From a structural POW the classic K's are a terrible design, but it is of course possible to improve it. One way would be to make a X-...

Re: Heat Treating Blast Baffle
Yeah, not much you can do with most stainless steels (except stuff like 17-4). But don't worry too much about it, some slight wear on sharp edges can appear quite fast. Most times it stops once the edges has been rounded a bit.

Re: Heat Treating Blast Baffle
17-4 is a precipitation hardening steel, the HT of that is more comparable to a tempering process that shouldn't affect dimensions much. For normal steels you would have to austenitizise, quench and temper, and the quench can affect shape and dimensions. Especially if it's an asymmetrical shape or y...

I concur. It should help, although it won't be magic. Whether or not it's worth it depends on how much extra work it is for you.

I'm just not sure if it is super stringy or if it will work harden Haven't machined much 7xxx, but as it is stronger it should be less stringy than 6xxx. And work hardening shouldn't be a problem either, it can't get much harder than it already is. When machining aluminum (usually 6068T6) I prefer ...

making the "weapon" illegal when there's already a law against excessive force won't prevent the crime. I think you're missing the point. Imagine a person properly trained in unarmed combat. Equip him with something equivalent to a brass knuckle without any additional training. Now imagin...

True, but it can only decouple the axial motion. Most guns have a tilting barrel, so the weight still has an effect.doubloon wrote:The whole point of the Nielsen device is to disengage the weight of the can from the barrel at the moment recoil begins.

Re: Can't get my 300 AR to cycle
Without changing the gas system your options are limited. First make sure everything moves with as little friction as possible. You might consider cutting the spring a bit, removing weights from the buffer should help some as well. A lightweight BCG is another possibility. But I would try loading wi...

Re: Can't get my 300 AR to cycle
Definitively the wrong gas system for subs. A bigger port might solve it, but the risk of bullet shaving increases. Besides, as you're already at tube ID it might help all that much. Plugging the original port and fitting a pistol length tube would probably be the best solution. Themonk: Using a car...

Re: best 308 semi auto hunting rifle for my Omega can
The BAR can be fitted with a silencer. At least they do that here in Norway, the distributor even claims it to be one of few semis that can be suppressed. The gas system must of course be adjusted, this voids the factory warranty for any faults that can be attributed to the gas setting.

Gas blowback is mostly a matter of adjustment. The best setup I've tried used a carbine spring in a rifle tube and adjusted to the absolute minimum. No gas and silky smooth cycling.

Re: RECOIL Reduction WHEN Suppressed
A muzzle brake is in essence a reverse thrust device that redirects gas to cancel rearward movement of the rifle. Not quite. Yes, the most effective brakes strive to send gas backwards, but all you need to reduce recoil is to reduce the forward velocity of the gas. And this is exactly what a silenc...

Re: lathe coolant systems
While not absolutely required for some (even many) operations, cooling is beneficial. Especially when running heavy cuts. Ever tried hogging aluminum dry? It quickly turns into a mess of stringy chips and chip welding. Steel usually breaks fine dry, but the parts can heat up enough to mess up a prec...

Asymmetrical baffles can disturb the bullet, especially the fist one (blast baffle) where the pressure is highest. if you haven't done so already, try staggering the baffles so the notch is rotated 180 degrees. This might mitigate the effect. Making the first baffle symmetrical might also help.

That's not an unreasonable assumption, short term. All mfgs are set up to handle the current demand, if the tax & hassle disappears demand will increase while supply remains the same.HansohnBrothers wrote:As long as demand is high, prices will not go down.
