Ran B's weight & volume calculator

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

I sent the file out to those who asked me for it. But then a little while later I found a few mistakes in the file which I corrected and resent to those who had the first one.

To use the file you need MS Office Excel. By filling in several variables like tube outside and inside diameter, length, baffle size and material thickness, you can obtain an approximation of how much volume the parts take up in the tube and how much the final product will weigh. The blue cells on the spreadsheet are for the variables you enter, the red cells are the results of the data entries. It is only set up for 60 degree baffles.

For example a K baffle takes up a bit more room than a cone baffle and spacer. This is mostly due to the thicker front flange on the K baffle.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions or find any mistakes.

It appears to work fine. I'm using Office 2011 for the Mac.

Is that the cross over for using Win stuff on a Mac? Did you use NUMBERS?

No, I'm using the native Mac OS X verison of Microsoft Office 2011.
The formulas that are being used don't look too crazy though, just basic maths.
I opened it up in Numbers and it looks like all the formulas came over fine.

The most advanced math I used was the trig function tangent of 60 degrees. The rest is your basic +-/* and squaring.

Very nice, Ranb.
Thank you.
Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you got 'til it's gone?

Ranb, please add my compliments for your generosity.

EXCEL + OSX 10.6.8 = EASY.

Glad you cleverly got away from having to also use Finite Element Method and
Non Linear Wave Propagation in Random Media calculations. :) :)

Best!
