oversize bore chuck for mini lathe

Ok I got a big lathe out in the shop but my little one in the house. I woudl like to find a chuck that has a over sized bore hole and longer then the norm twice as long would work great to allow for the easy chucking of barrels with the block attached. factory ones are 3 1/8 across the face and 2" deep. Does such a animal exist?

your own, an oversized cylinder with 8, two per row, large bolts for centering.
The exact name of the jig eludes me but it is something like a Cat's ---- (?).
Too lazy after lunch to look up. Any kind soul fill in? ( Pussy parts ).

Perhaps. I'm guessing you're talking about a mini-lathe? The most common sizes are 80mm OD with a 16mm bore (yours), 100/22mm and 125/30mm.

I usuallly bore the chuck to match the lathe bore but if you dont loose the integrity of the check, go a little bigger.

My English friends call them "bell" or "ring" chucks. No idea what they're called in America, never seen one in the flesh.

I made something similar, only with 4 screws that could be chucked in my regular chuck. But today I got hold of a busted 100mm 4-jaw, one of the screw retainers was broken. 20 bucks if I could fix it, if not I could just bin it. Shouldn't take me more than an hour to fix plus an hour to make a back plate

some front threading.

Ok a few pics are kind of what I am seeking. The through hole on my small lathe is just under 1 inch. This is not the part I have issue with.

This is what I am looking for with space BEHIND the jaws for the handgun barrel blocks to reside in. Meaning a chuck a bit longer then normal with a "hollow" core for the barrel block. Seems the only drawback to using my little lathe for threading is this issue.

That's a simple spider with soft jaw inserts.You build them not buy them.

How much room do you need behind the jaws?

You could simply make a ring chuck long enough to clear anything you would want to fit behind the clamping screws, but you could end up with so much overhang that accuracy and deflection might be a problem.

Supporting the muzzle end on the tail stock (appropriately protected) could help somewhat.

You could also make a custom backing plate for you current chuck with a counter bored section that spaced it out from the spindle, but it probably have to be disassembled for each part, and it still might have overhang problems.

Just throwing things against the wall at this point, let me know if anything sticks.

Just enough to fit the barrel block form a handgun barrel in.

You can make the inside space as large as you need, within rational limits.
