Re: Mig or Tig ???
You have more control with tig ,mig will work fine but may not look as clean.Be sure of the SS type some do not weld well.
The only reason after 243 years the government now wants to disarm you is they intend to do something you would shoot them for!

Re: Mig or Tig ???
While MIG offers more speed, TIG will offer a bit more flexability. Namely precision heat control and clean welds will be your friend on suppressors.
Re: Mig or Tig ???
I'd be surprised if anybody could outdo a skilled TIG-welder for such applications. Structural welding might be done faster and cheaper with other methods, but for delicate work my first and second option would be TIG.
Re: Mig or Tig ???
TIG is indeed a slower but more precise method. SS always requires good back purge or the use of a flux to prevent the sugaring.
Anyone TiG weld 4130?
If I can't get 316 SS that is straight enough for my 50 BMG project I might go with 4130. Anyone TiG weld 4130? I have used flux core MiG with decent results but think or hope I can do better with TiG.

SilencerTalk was a place I could disccuss making registered silencers without being told I was a criminal. That is no longer true. http://www.silencertalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=132&t=99273
Re: Mig or Tig ???
This is what they are talking about, hard to get the same results with a mig on small thin stuff.

Re: Mig or Tig ???
once you try TIG, you will not want to bother with MIG unless you really have to get the thing welded fast. Especially if you only use flux core.

G'Day Fella's,
Krinkov, as has already been suggested to you, Tig fusion welding is the best method of welding suppressors together!
I have been designing and making "Cans" for some time now (in Australia), and my .22 Rimfire and all my Centrefire Cans are Tig welded together!!!
I'll try to post an image or two.....?

Well, I don't think that worked!
Bugger!!!
Doh!

Homer - you've got to get your pictures onto the internet in such a way that they can be accessed with a URL. Then, here, when posting, you click the img button, you get
[img] | [slash img]
Then you've got to paste the URL for the picture between those symbols, like
