Shortening and re- threading a barrel while still in the act

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Shortening and re- threading a barrel while still in the act

Post by gunny50 »

So Gents,

Project I have been working on last weeks.
Shortening Barrels that where not allowed to be pulled from the receiver.
No picture of disassembly and shortening the barrel by 4 inches.
All work was done on Teach in lathe.

Picture 1: Catshead was installed, complete action including barrel was inserted.
In the back of catshead was a pilot that was pre-aligning the action in the Catshead.

Picture 2: Inserting grinded rod with 2 bronze bushings in the barrelbore and adjust to 0 on 2 spots.

Picture 3 Front view.
An Aluminum bushing was machined fit tightly around the barrel so no markings would be on the barrel in the visible aerea.
The 2nd set of screw pressure points was under the hand guard. So no problem there.
A 3rd set was in the rear only to stabilize the receiver, NOT to adjust the barrel.
All bolts where bronze tipped.
