Dimples

Hi all,

I just began the long wait for a Form 1 can and have been thinking about dimples lately. As in, what if the baffles were dimpled like a golf ball. Would it have any effect? At very least it would increase surface area allowing for faster heat transfer.

What do you guys think about it?

If you threaded the interior of the can and the exterior of the baffles you could screw them together.That would increase contact area allowing heat transfer to the tube.With a properly designed baffle a wet suppressor can be constructed for thermal transfer to a coolent.Even without coolent the surface area would be many times over any dimpled design and should perform better.While wet suppressors are the best way to take advantage of thermodynamics, delay of gases through better baffles will allow better suppression without the use of coolants or heat transfer schemes.Drop the dimples.

That was the image I was thinking of a deGroat baffle, for his 9mm pistol if i'm correct.

How does it perform, related to same size cans with K's?

I don't know anyone who has a k-baffle can in my area so I can't answer that question unfortunately. But as to performance, at first I wasn't too thrilled with it and then I did two things. First I got the heaviest buffer that my AR would function with, I'm currently using a Hahn and second, I let someone else shoot the damn thing while I sat back and listened. AR 9mm's have terrible ejection port noise, so they sound louder to the operator than they actually are. I was quite happy with the performance after I stood back a ways.

Could you unscrew them apart after your done shooting?

Not to mention the "twang" of the buffer spring in the tube

You can unscrew them if using a wet can.However a wet can dose not need to be dissembled if you use CLP or other lite oils.My point is good contact is required for baffles to transfer heat to the tube and small dimples won't work as well as easy to machine inside threads.You can skip threading the baffles and still gain surface area.
