database of supressor plans ?

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

database of supressor plans ?

Post by mob »

wondering if anyone might have a collection of suppressor plans /blueprints they might be willing to share or point me to for free download, as someone who's already 13 stamps in I would like to start making my own suppressors for my future stamps, and also coming from an engineering family I like to look at the prints and reverse engineer how they work and such. im a tinker-er which explains why I have so many Seiko/citizen dive watches that I've refurb'd from the dead.

There's a thread here called links to complete builds has almost every quality build that's been posted here.

I have gone on Google and typed in 'silencer baffle' and 'suppressor baffle' and then went to the Images tab and found quite a bit of good stuff!

For the record I was more talking about blueprints instead of instructional builds

The short answer is there aren't any. The big makers don't share their drawings, and most of the Form 1 builders don't make any. The closest you'll get are links to the completed builds, baffle pics, and searching Google Patents.

If you are looking to "reverse engineer", start with a Google search of suppressor baffle patents, like fixit recommended. Since baffle angles are quite well known, dimensions are going to be dependent of tubing ID and caliber bore. Thickness will be determined by pressure, caliber, materials used and rate of fire.

Seikos are easy compared to suppressors. :)

Unfortunately, I had the same issue years ago and things aren't any better now. You will find almost nothing in the manner of 'correct' dimensioned prints. There are many SolidWorks drawings (I call them "pretty pictures") here if you look around. Most guys building one can don't bother to make prints, it's a seat-O-the-pants kind of deal. These two threads are your best bet for ideas:

Coming up with your own specifications - whether that be by sketch, drawing, computer model, drafting, or crayons - is part of the form-1 process. Someone could give you a detailed print of something and there would still end up being something about it you'll change to suit your needs, skills, or available machines/tools.

Many members will give you specific dimensions if you find a build you want to pattern yours after - just ask. I'll share anything about mine unless I got help from someone and there's a specific aspect they asked me not to make public. I'm not going to blueprint something for you - if I didn't do anything fancier than an annotated sketch for me to build it, I'm not going thru the trouble of drafting it for someone else to copy it :) But I'm happy to share what I've learned, what has worked well, and what I could have done better.

The best designs have always been freely offered by this group.I have never seen any designs offered for sale that were not rip offs of other peoples hard work. The devil is in the details and communication with the designer is often imperative for best results. The study of patents is recommended as a learning tool but be aware that misdirection and clouding of important details is part of patent protection. Some patents are so broad in spectrum that you could take a year in research to find what works best do to too much information or lack of it.
The best way to get a "plan" is to let the group know what you wish to build and what skills you bring to the table. Most people here are very helpful.
