223 can embarrassingly loud now

I posted earlier about erosion problems with my 12 year old 4130/aluminum can I made for my ar-15. I hadn't noticed that it was louder over the years until last week when I had it shot along side an OPS can. I think it was this one. http://www.opsinc.us/suppressors/3rd-Model-5.56mm.html

It is time for a new all stainless can. I'm thinking 6-7 cones stacked/welded about 3/4 inch apart in a 6.5" tube .049" to .035" thick. Should keep it about 14-16 ounces.

With SS baffles I should be able to keep it from looking like the photos here; viewtopic.php?f=10&t=132307

Welded front and rear, I suspect with the thinner walled tubing?
What series SS you thinking?

Direct thread, welded end caps, welded baffle/spacer stack, 304 or 316 tubing and bar stock.

Are you going to try any clipping of the cones or keep 'em pointy?
You didn't mention what OD you were looking at.

Pointy 60 degree cones. 1.5" tubing with a .049" wall from Online Metals in Seattle. I'll reduce the thickness of the tubing beyond the blast chamber to .035". The baffle stack will be welded to the front end cap to keep it all in place.

0.035 seems awfully thin to me. The weight you'd save is negligible, and I personally think the cost-benefit ratio at that point doesn't make sense. I'd take the fraction of an ounce of weight for greater strength in the tube.

I made two 223 cans from .035" 4130 and designed one made from 316 .049" tubing that was turned down to .035". None of them have any issues at all. They don't get glow stick hot though.

I'm not saying whether or not a .035 wall tube will be sufficient, especially with welds in it, but at .29 #/in^3, I calculate a 4oz difference from a .065 wall.
