Baffle clearance to I.D. of tube?

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Baffle clearance to I.D. of tube?

Post by L1A1Rocker »

How much clearance should I have to the I.D. of tube? This is for my 300 blk can that has an O.D. of 1.625. I'm not sure what others have used in the past and I think I tend to make them a bit tight.

Thanks for any info ya'll have on this.

I made mine a press fit but I've seen others where they could almost slide in and out

I make my K baffles just shy of press in clearance. No issues with .050 overbore from caliber. But, YMMV as I have a grand total of 2 complete Form 1s under my belt. 1 aluminum .22LR, 1 stainless 5.56. I am just now starting a Titanium 300 Blackout myself & hope it performs as well.
Still awaiting an original & riveting thought for signature line; stand by...........

I've seen .005 recommended here frequently. My last 2 were .007 & that seems to make them come apart dirty with a lot less encouragement.

Consider baffle strength, how you plan to clean it, & how frequently you'd like to disassemble it.

Resurrecting this old topic. When you say clearance, are you referring to radial or diametrical? I.e., .005 per side or .005 total clearance (that would be .0025 clearance per side).

I go 0.005 under in diameter, not per side
