How vital is it that a Form 1 can length matches what is listed on the form?

ie: I listed 7" but can turns out to be closer to six or closer to 8.

Essentially, what you write is what it needs to be.

Careful consideration to the following:

You CAN NOT go longer. To do so would constitute the need for another tax stamp.

If you do, in fact, go shorter, you will need to notify the ATF for a correction on your Form 1.

Ok, so it's pretty important. I'm just trying to decide if I want a 6" can or and 8" can and wasn't sure if being an inch off either way would be a big deal.

You can have the Form 1 corrected, it just requires that you write them a letter stating what needs to be corrected.

Correct but you can not have the form amended to a LONGER length, you can only amend a shorter length.

Longer length equals increased performance in the eyes of the ATF and requires a new stamp.

OP - File the form for the LONGEST length you think it will end up and if it is shorter simply write a letter to the ATF and ask them that the NFRTR be updated to reflect the correct length of the can.

It was pretty simple.
Your can ended up being longer or shorter than the originally filed Form 1?

Did you speak to Specialist Ken Mason?

I hope they approved longer, because if so that will set a precedence they will NOT like at all!

I know a certain lawyer that will eat that up!

Damn I knew that would bring a lot of questions I tried deleting it before that lol. but yes they amend it for longer. The specialist was named Janis Fields. They told me they would transfer the tax to the new form 1 I sent in.
