Form 1 45 ACP can with booster

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

1. With the current rules once its built your done. No modifications, no repairs, no replacement parts, nada. Stainless is a lot more robust that aluminum and will last a lot longer. Stainless can also be made much thinner than aluminum and be much stronger, albeit still a tad heavier. Also I use a lot of lead cast ammo so I wanted to be able to use "The Dip" to clean my baffles.

2. I had almost all the stainless on hand for this already. Just had to order the tube.

I originally planned to make this can from 100% Titanium but it turned out to be cost prohibitive.

On another note, I got time to clip the baffles today. I clipped the middle 8 baffles and left the blast baffle and end baffles symmetrical. I did this cause Ive heard that it promotes accuracy. I did this to my centerfire can aswell. No idea if it was beneficial on this can or not.

After I clipped the baffles I put it back together and said screw it, Im shooting in the back yard. I have a bunch of woods behind my house so the direction of fire is safe. I shoot suppressed 22 in the yard all the time. I was worried the 45 might be too loud for the neighbors though. I did video it for yall to see. This is on my 5" 1911 with 230gr hard cast over 5.0gr Bullseye @ ~800fps. Before this I tested with a single round a few times to see if it cycled and it locked back every time so I went for 5. Here is the video.

I'm curious what spring you used. How many pounds was it? Do you remember which one it was exactly?

This is the exact spring I ordered. They come in a pack of 3 even.

McLarenross wrote:Finally got my 45 can done today. I went through about 100 design revisions in CAD before I settled on this one. The baffles are tsudo-CTA style but with smooth 60* cones. Including the nested one inside the far endcap there are 11 baffles. Yes 11. Overall length is just 7.75" with the booster. It is completely constricted from 316 stainless steel. I used a SilercerCo Osprey/Octane piston cause it was just easier that single pointing to a shoulder in such a small hole. I still need to clip the cones so dont beat me up on that. I have not gotten to shoot this yet but hopefully next weekend it will fire.
Beautiful work Corporal. Well done.

Awesome. I was recommended and got this one for a 9mm and was wondering the spring differences for a .45.

These came in a 5 pack but the ID is likely too small for a .45 sized piston.

Been a little while but I finally got to shoot a better video of this can on my 1911. In person the sound of the round impacting the plate rack was louder than the gun itself. I tried to make a few more videos but the battery in the GoPro died.

McLarenross

How much did you preload the spring in the booster?

Thanks

Awesome work, looks great.
Question on the piston threads :
What are thread specs to thread tube ID"
Thanks

Great find, just ordered two of them. Sitting on a pile of form 1s after a bout of 41p panic a while back, so they will be put to proper use.
