.223/5.56 silencer with no legal limitations.

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

.223/5.56 silencer with no legal limitations.

Post by Jakes »

If you were to build a .223 or 5.56 silencer and had no legal limitations what kind of baffles would you use. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated, We want to use it for culling and shooting wild pigs. In South Africa we have no legal problems to manufacture silencers.

Thank you

There are many nations that come together on this site to aid in one another's builds. What specific legalities are you speaking of? The main legality is whether or not one's specific region allows suppressors. In the US, our other legality it patent infringement. I am not fully aware of all international patents so to say what is legal in South Africa may not be true. I think that is really the only thing you would need to be aware of. Take a proven, commercially available design, and go with it. There are dozens of 5.56 designs available, here on the site. Maybe, go through the completed builds, find a couple you like and bring them back to us with ideas. We might be able to assist a bit better. I say this, because there are several 5.56, build specific, posts, just on the first page. Many of the replies will be that of rehashed topics. You need to do some work, first, before expecting input from other members. We are here to help, though.

Just use a clipped cone design. I use that for hog eradication, and have killed hundreds, maybe a thousand. I use a lightweight design with only 3 baffles because I'm carrying it around a lot.

Since no restrictions, maybe use aluminum and replace parts as necessary?

Good luck.

I'm with you on that one. Cheap and light and I would make a ton of spare parts to swap as needed.
