Re: Need a blast jackett
what exactly is a "blast jacket"??
Re: Need a blast jackett
I don't think they make one, they are more commonly referred to as "muzzle blast shield". Gemtech makes one for their system, Griffin makes one for their QD system and the standard flash hiders, Damage Industries for their muzzle devices (also fits the Griffin) several other companies make them for their Own brakes. AAC is releasing one this year for thier QD systems.

Re: Need a blast jackett
I think I'd offer it for sale, to try and recoup some funds.
Then get an ACC Blackout 51T and the shield, once released.

Re: Need a blast jackett
I would be very careful about using a "blast jacket" or you might get your yang in a jam. Its easiest to pick off the low hanging fruit first. You would be better off spending 200$ and calling it a moderator.Call it insurance or preventive care against unwanted first dates.
The only reason after 243 years the government now wants to disarm you is they intend to do something you would shoot them for!

So are the Damage Industries and Griffin taper mounts compatible? More over, can I use a damage industries setup with the SDTA griffin adapter?

Good Captain you did it again. Coffee splattered across the desk when
I reached this line. Before the pill. Most clever as usual.

I have been on this board a very long time and have assisted countless people in their builds. My number of posts is low compared to many that have much less to say.pannern wrote:Ok I used the wrong term, muzzle blast shield...I got it! I could care less if you used the wrong term ,I do all the time and my butchering of the english language is legendary.
My words were a warning to you of impending doom that could fall upon you with your plans.BATFE could interpret your "shield" as a UN-registered suppressor.I encourage you to act like a adult and quit being so butt hurt. You'll learn more in a interactive environment. 99% of communications happen through private messages and e-mail, little is posted in these pages in comparison.
My nick name was given possibly before you were a twinkle in your old mans eye and the surviving members of the unit would not approve.

He chose to dwell and be negative, I saw no thank yous to those providing an actual answer.
It seems there has been a rash of bleeding panties posting here, as of lately.

You're on a roll.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Re: Need a blast sheild
Okay, I'm confused. I had to look up the reference to blast shields and found something similar to a muzzle brake cover I made for myself a few months ago...close fitting sleeve that covers a YHM QD 30 cal muzzle brake. Now I see guys referencing extreme caution due to possible misinterpretation of such as a suppressor.
Given the number of such devices on the market, ranging from these to linear brakes to the Noveske flaming pig, is this a real concern? Smacks of overcaution to me...are there real instances of someone making a cover for a muzzle brake (or a linear type comp that directs blast forward) to close off the side ports of a brake and being gigged by law enforcement?
Seriously?

Re: Need a blast sheild
ATF claimed sigs muzzle brake with a piece of radiator hose over it was a silencer. I forget the actual DB reduction though. I would leave a large margin around the ports were I making such a device. Like 0.75 in brake 1.25 in ID on the blast shield.cdhknives wrote:Okay, I'm confused. Re: Need a blast sheild
I don't see much of a difference in design or function between a sleeved muzzle brake and the first inch or two of a suppressor. Clearly it's not going to reduce sound enough to matter to anyone who's not a heck of a bureaucrat, but ATF officially takes the hard-line stance that anything that reduces sound by even 1db is a suppressor. Frankly, their definition is so broad that there are very few items in your local grocery store that could not, when found near a roll of duct tape, be considered a silencer part. That, coupled with ATF's history of erratic and often draconian enforcement, makes it difficult to predict how the laws will be interpreted in the real world. Hence, caution is encouraged.

Andy you hit it on the head.It would cost you much more in legal fees than what it costs for a stamp.I have worked with firearms my entire life and being very conservative is a requirement if you intend to have a long term association with them.If you want a flaming pig or another BATFE approved design buy it or get a stamp.

Well, I'd never heard the term "blast shield" in reference to muzzle devices before, so when I saw the thread title, that scene from Star Wars was literally the only thing I could think of.Capt. Link. wrote:I did love your Jedi reference Brilliant!
