Hello all. I am new to the suppressor building and am eager to start building one, after ATF approval of course. But I am green and have a few questions. If you all don’t mind.
1. I can’t just buy awesome baffles, right? I have to make them since any suppressor part is a suppressor in itself, is my understanding. How about buying partially finished baffles?
2. What are the standard whole diameters for a given caliber? I am starting off with pistol silencers so, suggested diameters for baffles and end cap for a 22LR, 9mm, 40 s&w and 45 acp would be great. Also, what are the industry standard suppressor threading for them?
3. Boosters, aka Nielsen devices, aka LIDs. Where can I buy them? I want to make my first Glock suppressor a success.
Video that got me very interested in building a suppressor from a mag-light, below. Any tips you may have that this guy may have missed? What say you silencer talk?

Thank you all in advanced for your help.
Noob here, with a few question if you all don't mind.

You need to let us know what experience you have, equipment you have access to, etc.
If you don't have access to all of these things or know how to machine them properly , you are much better off buying a commercial one.

I'm a noob too. I also saw darrels videos from SD tactical and have joined his forum. I suggest you go to his site and do the same. It has lots of good info specific to his products and lots of people who have built them who are helpful.
With his stuff you can build an effective can and not break the bank. A fancy machine shop is not required; but a drill press, a vice, and a press will help.
As for baffles... Assuming that you mean freeze plugs, you can buy them formed but not drilled or drilled under bore but not formed on various places on the Internet. Darrel at SD doesn't want to push the bounds so he doesn't currently sell either. I've yet to see them formed and drilled under bore but am not an authority.
Most recommended .06 to .08 over bore diameter for baffle holes.... Ie. 308 +. 06 =.368 and next easiest size drill to find is. 370 or go really easy and go up to 3/8" (.375).
But with most things gun related... It can be complicated and different... Ymmv
And I'm just a noob reading a lot while I wait for my form 1 approval.

1. No and No. There is no such thing as 80% baffles, for us mere civilians.
2. Depends on your level of skill/precision. Generally, 0.04-0.06" over bore diameter is recommended.
Barrel thread reference here
3. If you are going to make the suppressor, why not make the Nielsen device yourself?
Several threads available here.

No experience in machining, only have a vice, no drill press. But, that guy in the video link provided, makes it seems like you don't need any specialty equipment or previous experience .ghostdog662 wrote:You need to let us know what experience you have, equipment you have access to, etc.

DIY boosters? Nice, didn't know it was possible. Do oyu know of anyone selling QD attachments for DIY suppressor? Something like a Gemtech a2 flash hider QD that we can make or buy and install on our suppressors.T-Rex wrote:1. No and No. There is no such thing as 80% baffles, for us mere civilians.

I believe SDTA and Diversified offer rear end caps machined for a YHM QD flash hider/brakeJoe6801 wrote: Do oyu know of anyone selling QD attachments for DIY suppressor? Something like a Gemtech a2 flash hider QD that we can make or buy and install on our suppressors.
Aside from these, I'm not versed enough in the "parts", "solvent trap" suppressors.

Someone should go into the business of making 80% parts. Like they do with the lowers. That would be legit correct?

The term “Firearm Silencer” or “Firearm Muffler” means any device for silencing, muffling, or diminishing the report of a portable firearm, including any combination of parts, designed or redesigned, and intended for the use in assembling or fabricating a firearm silencer or firearm muffler, any part intended only for use in such assembly or fabrication.

How can I contact them? Do SDTA and Diversified have an website?

Wonder then, how people can sell 80% full auto selectors for Glocks :TT-Rex wrote:NoAaron wrote:Someone should go into the business of making 80% parts. Like they do with the lowers. That would be legit correct?
