Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Yea, this is a novice threading question....

I want to form 1 an integral suppressor for a 10/22 that would be similar to a Mist-22 in the sense that I want it to simply be the same OD & look of a bull barrel. Not planning to copy the baffle design so this has nothing to do with IP. My questions are...

1) How would one determine which thread specs to use on the breech end of the outer tube (assume Ti)? Any recommendation on TPI for that?

2) Will the chamber part, for lack of a better term, of a 10/22 barrel that fits into the receiver fit w/in the spindle bore of a 7x lathe? Assuming I can do everything else, would this operation be reasonable for a 7x lathe (assuming the barrel is short enough to fit, of course. I'm talking more rigidity/concentricity)?

Depends on wall thickness , .035" wall tube is way more than enough for pressure onna rim rife but I personally would not cut any bigger threads than 32 tpi and that could cause galling.
If just use .050" wall 7075 aluminum and thread it 28tpi. 7075 is way cheaper and way easier to cut andnhas all the strength you need.

I agree, I'd use 28 tpi in whatever diameter is appropriate, and .050-.065" aluminum tubing. 6061 is fine too, and easier to anodize.

Do you know what the spindle bore diameter is on your lathe? I have threaded a number of 10/22 barrels on my 9" South Bend, and the spindle bore is too small. Threading between centers is better anyway, if your lathe has the bed length.

By the reference of "7x Lathe", I'm assuming it to be a Chicom type. You will not have enough room to do, interior, threading on a 16"+/- work piece. I agree with the finer tread pitch, but 1/24 would be my choice, in Al.

I'm assuming its similar to my chi-com 9x20 and in that case, its around 7/8". No, you wont be threading any rifle barrels on that small of a lathe.
