First round pop

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

First round pop

Post by rem_pss308 »

My latest form 1 can is 30 cal. Titanium 8" long, 1.5" o.d. Using YHM quick connect.

I currently have the LT YHM flashider on my 300 BLK.

Shooting subsonic 220 gr. sound suppression is awesome, sounds like a staple gun.

Inside the can:

TI Valve spring retainer for blast baffle. it has the small holes to help with back pressure. It sits really close to the end of the flashider for the smallest blast chamber I could get.

Next is a .5" TI spacer, then formed freeze plugs the rest of the way, stacked to each other. they are Clipped.

The Problem is a loud first round pop. If I use a shot of white lithium grease in the blast chamber there is no FRP

I have one just like it using direct thread, with a 1" blast chamber. and dry it has no FRP.

My question is:

If I changed to the YHM muzzle brake Could it possibly get rid of the FRP, or lower how loud it is.

I know guys use them to save the blast baffle,

Hopefully someone hear has experience with the difference in FRP using the flashider and muzzle brake.

The ones I have heard that have somewhat similar layout have a minimal expected first round pop, similar to commercial cans.

Are they using the flashider or muzzle brake.

The Griffin Brakes and Flash Comps but not the flash hider version.

I will be building a similar set up if I can ever make some garage time. I bought YHM's QD brake from JSE surplus their price was fair @ $65. I'll be interested to hear your results. You may get less FRP simply because there is more material in the brake vs a flash hider. I chose the brake to reduce wear on my suppressor.

Ok I received the YHM muzzle brake. and shot it dry. to me it didn't make any difference in first round pop. so I guess I will have to be happy using the lithium grease. or go back to direct thread.

Thanks for the update I thought going to the brake would have made a difference. Did you say your blast chamber is as small as possible, as in butts up to the muzzle device?

I wonder if it has more to do with the holes in your blast baffle. So you're pleased with your cans performance other than the FRP?

Yes very pleased with the performance.

Im thinking of cutting my blast chamber spacer in half and placing a washer there that the flash hider just fits thru, causeing my blast chamber to be two chambers. has anyone tried this. or do you think it will work.

I have a drawing but cant fugure out how to show it. there is no place to add an attachment.

Do you have a set quantity of white lithium grease you use or do you just put some in there? Are you just putting a glob of grease in there clear of the bore line or you you try to spread it evenly on the walls of blast chamber?

I use spray can from NAPA and just spray a quick squirt at the blast baffle then turn the can. its thick enough it doesn't leak out
