First suppressor advice

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

First suppressor advice

Post by fishman »

I want to build my first suppressor and want some advice. I want to build a 300 blackout upper for my AR with a 10" barrel and pin a suppressor to it so that I don't need two atf stamps.

My fist question would be, what material should I make it out of, I'm an amateur machinist so I want to stay away from titanium. Will 7075 aluminum be strong enough to withstand subsonic only 300 blackout use? I'm afraid stainless steel will be too heavy, (I want to make it really big, maybe 1.625" diameter and 10" long)

My second question would be, Will I get significantly better performance out of a cone or k baffle design than a monocore one? My current plan is to copy the gemtech gmt-300blk but add two more chambers and add 1/8" to the OD. But if I will get better performance out of another design. Thanks for any advice!
