Drilling jig for monocore

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Drilling jig for monocore

Post by MG_Willy »

OK i have searched everywhere.... I saw somewhere that was a jig for drilling a mono-core baffle. It was 2 plates that had a channel down the center that was a few thousandths smaller than I believe 1" (dont recall) you places the core material in teh channel and bolted the 2 sides together and from teh top down it looked like this:

-------------------------

Sorry for the crude drawing... but the holes were sized to X and when you finished you had the core material with offset holes on either side of it opening up to the center
bullet travel hole. Am I dreaming or did I actually see something like this.. and if im dreaming.. .lol What are the thoughts of building a Jig like this?

Thanks

The only reason after 243 years the government now wants to disarm you is they intend to do something you would shoot them for!

I hate to tell you, but I typed "monocore jig" into google and that was the first image to pop up.

Why not just start with square bar. Bore pilot hole for axial centerline. Drill holes, turn to finish OD and bore dimension.

Or you could just make a simpler jig with one hole for the main cavity, another for the outer weight savings/coaxial volume. Make it maybe 3" long and secure it to your mill table. Clamp your stock securely into it and start cutting metal, shifting it in the little jig as you need. There's no real necessity to have a jig for ALL the holes when the thing is built on a repeating pattern.

Understood. I dont have a mill or even access to one... but if one had said jig you could build a monocore with just a press. bar stock cut to fit solidly inside a tube. the major issue would be the center hole, but I think that could easily be over come with the availability of barrel extensions etc..

Thanks
