Taking Form 1 to my Sheriff -- what do I need to take with me?

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Taking Form 1 to my Sheriff -- what do I need to take with me?

Post by DanielWilson »

I'm getting an appointment with my sheriff to review my first Form 1. I expect to take my drivers' license and carry permit as ID. Besides the Form 1 itself, what else should I take? I'm in Indiana, though I don't know how much difference that makes.

Thanks!

Thanks. Do you suggest downloading the card and printing on card stock? Or something else? I can buy 50-packs from Amazon. I wonder what I'd do with the other 49 cards ... :)

The cards need to be supplied by law enforcement.(Finger print cards)you'll see when you get it done.
I have done it at the sheriffs and state police.

So would the sheriff's office likely provide them? or should I take the cards in?

Be prepared to leave the forms and return to get them after they are signed.

In my experience, I drop the forms off at the PD. The CLEO (or officer he has designated to do so for him) will sign them when they have time. Then I pick them back up at my convenience.

My first time, I did as you are and made an appointment with the Chief. I sat down with him and started explaining why I was there and what I needed. About half way through he cut me off and asked me "you just need me to sign off on your form, right?" It was no big deal, but he told me he needed to look it over, check my address with my DL, and run a local background check on me (just their local database). Once that was done, he'd sign it and call me to come pick it up. He called about an hour later and I picked it up that evening after work.

Awesome! My sheriff has seemed pretty cool on other stuff. Perhaps he'll be as cool as yours on this.
