Endcap won't stay tight

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Endcap won't stay tight

Post by CMV »

After a 10 rd mag, the suppressor needs re-tightened. Ready to Cerakote but haven't had this problem before. Should I make a facing cut leaving only a small shoulder around the threaded hole?

Or am I doing it wrong & need to leave the wave/spring washer in place on the 22/45?

Why not just a drop of loctite?

I would try an O-Ring set down all the way against the barrel thread relief. It would crush and add a bit of friction, although it may not last for a lot of removal cycles. Fortunately, you can buy them by the bag! My hunch is that your end cap thread major diameter is a hair oversize, and there is not much to be done about that besides cutting a new one.

Is that some sort of barrel threaded adapter over either a skinny barrel liner or a barrel end that's been turned down to fit it? Can't quite make out what I'm seeing there. If it's an end cap on the gun itself, what about having one made with a slightly larger thread OD, just a bit fatter so the suppressor threads on snug? Of course if the threaded portion with the 4 holes in it isn't just a small part that's not going to work... but it really seems like it's a soda straw barrel with some sort of threaded adapter.

I would try taking a facing cut, on the suppressor adapter, but leave a small shoulder in place.
The materials are most likely heating up and pushing each other apart.
A small shoulder should help alleviate some expansion.

a_canadian- looks to me like one of the Ruger Lite models of their 22 pistol, aluminum sleeve over a tensioned thin steel barrel.

OP, I had a similar problem with a form1 .223 can, and a stout wave washer fixed it. Haven't had the same issue with my 22/45, though.

22/45 Lite. I'll try w/ wave washer installed. For some reason I thought you weren't supposed to use that with the suppressor.....but it is there for a reason.

My other one stays tight w/o using the wave washer but it has a bunch of holes in the endcap for a spanner wrench and is smaller diameter.

2 small spring loaded grub screws on suppressor side to match up with spanner holes on the 22/45 lite should keep it from rotating loose.

Another option notice threads on the 22/45 lite are not threaded all the way to the base ?

Machine out a beveled space in the suppressor for a small o-ring to compress within the space that is not threaded on the barrel when mated together.

Not sure if this makes sense the way I explained it.

On the gun or silencer? Gun is factory, silencer endcap are good 1/2-28
