Looks like AFT just raided SDTA

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Supposedly for making/selling suppressors

I saw something on this yesterday.
Apparently, the internet is saying that the ATF considers threaded tubes to be silencers, regardless of their marketing and/or intended sales purpose.

Seeing that there have been no rulings, as of the new year:
- wtf has changed?
- why would the ATF go this route? Especially since the rise in Form1's has to have swelled their bank account.
- is Maglite going to have to stop selling flashlights?

It's an arbitrary "rule" change by an agency that has no logic

It wouldn't surprise me if next they considered simply possessing tubing / bar stock and a lathe to be a suppressor part

The BATFE needs to be eliminated.

Sigh. Sounds like it was the same thing that hit YHM years ago.

Now that being said, I have been waiting for this for YEARS. The law about silencer parts says "intent". If you buy stuff plug an play that you can complete with a hand tool you really are skirting things. Le't see, I just happen to have a pending F1, or an approved F1 in hand. "Oh, I think I need this dry good storage container and some nipple covers.  "

Dry good separator?
Shot Glass?
Nipple Cover?
Solvent Trap?

Really?

They don't care about the tax money.

This doesn't mean I agree with the law and how it is being enforced, I"m just stating it like I see it.

Tweet/Email/Facebook Donald Trump Jr. about it. He has dinner with the new president after all and is pro firearm muffler. ATF is part of the DOJ which is part of the executive branch and under Trump's direction. I don't agree with the man on MANY things but I think we can get some good things accomplished in the 2nd Amendment world.

It's not really a change in rules. An IOI was on a site visit (SDTA is a 07/02) and effectively told them they considered the parts silencer parts would take action against them if they continued to sell them. Its not clear if there is a process to appeal, as effectively no action as been taken against them. SDTA sells completed form 4 cans on with the same parts, the same tube body and adapter. Hopefully HPA passes soon.

Well that's a surefire way to bite your own ass! Everyone knows what they're for obviously but it isn't very defensible in court if you can't sell the story of alternate intent.

When Trump took over the White House, the very first thing he did was overhaul White House web site. He cleared all petitions that were awaiting Obama's signature. One of the very first petitions on the new web site is for the NFA to be repealed and done away with. Needs all shooters to sign for Trump to make some changes.

Yeah dude. I'll get right on that just as soon as the farrier finishes re-shoeing my flying unicorn.

Trump can't make those types of changes himself 1rosta, without Congress passing a bill to remove them.

From my understanding, the HPA is in committee for this Congressional session. And has many cosponsors. But Trump can't sign the bill into law until Congress passes it first. If they do to begin with.

Definitely not and its in the legislation that suppressors have to be registered (along with all the other NFA) but he can change how the ATF/DOJ prosecutes and how the forms are handled since those are dept regs not legislation.

Don't forget to throw away any flashlights you might have that have threads on both ends...which is pretty much all metal flashlights.
