Not a silencer question but general NFA that I'm sure someone here knows. If I mount one of those USFA ZIP 22's on a rail on an SBR AR, is that good? Or would I need to have a 16" upper on the SBR lower? Or something else like the ZIP would have to be papered as an SBR to mount it (effectively adding a stock to a pistol).

I know it's a POS. My SBR is a toy so adding another toy to it would be fun. For $150 I'd do it just for giggles. But I wouldn't buy a stamp to do it unless they came out with a much-improved ver 2.0
USFA ZIP

If you spend $150 on that POS, I will not read another one of your posts.

If it doesn't splatter, shatter, burst or explode, it's not worth shooting.

You would need to get an aow stamp. If you decide to I'll sell you a zip22 brand new for 120 shipped.CMV wrote:Not a silencer question but general NFA that I'm sure someone here knows. Re: USFA ZIP
How would it be an AOW?
It has both a rifled bore and would be designed to be fired from the shoulder.
I think you'd need to SBR the lil guy if you attach it to the rail of a rifle.
Similar to this stupid thing
If you mounted it similar to the Gripshot
I think you'd be gtg, because you can't fire it while it's in the holster.

ya, it's a POS I know...
But same concept - any .22 pistol w/ fixed barrel & picatinny rail across the top could conceivably have it's sights removed & mount the same way. 22/45, Buckmark, U22, etc - would be easy enough to make an adapter with 2 rail mounts 180° from each other and affix to the underside of the AR's rail. So let's take the ZIP out of the equation & say I want to do this with a Browning Buckmark Target. I'd need to SBR the Buckmark because I'm attaching a stock to it? Or does the AR SBR cover that?
Sorry to be so off-topic in this forum....

Can the Buckmark function w/o the lower? I wouldn't think so.
Let me modify my original statement to read:
If you leave the pistol intact, I say, the pistol has to be SBR'd, due to the fact that it has a barrel <16" and you're redesigning it to be fired from the shoulder.

Re: USFA ZIP
If the "master key" needs a SBS stamp, I would say that needs a SBR stamp

Re: USFA ZIP
A masterkey is a bit different, however. It's a shotgun, and technically a shotgun cut to a length that short even without a stock has to have a stamp.
I think it's a bit stupid either way, as:
1) you're attaching a firearm to an existing, already registered NFA item. It inherently has to be connected to the item to have the stock.
2) even if you hooked it up to a legal length rifle, you have in no way magically shortened the legal length of the existing firearm you are attaching it to.
This would matter in the context that the whole point of SBR/SBS laws is to allegedly prevent concealable "dangerous" weapons from being easily accessible, as you are obviously NOT making your firearm more concealable by adding another firearm to it.
If it was a shotgun going onto an SBR they might be able to argue something like "you paid for an SBR stamp, but you made an SBS!" or what not, especially since a shotgun that short would still be an NFA item on it's own when removed, either an AOW or an SBS. But a pistol, in my mind, has a real shot at being kosher.
That said, I bet dollars to donuts that the ATF would still say it's an SBR just because they can.

Re: USFA ZIP
For arguments sake, what if you took a double barrel shotgun and cut one of the barrels down to 15". Is it an SBS? It's obviously no more concealable than it was but now it has a short barrel. To the letter of the law, I'm guessing it would count as an sbs

You took a pistol and put a stock on it, thereby redesigning it to be fired from the shoulder, AND it has a barrel <16". Pretty cut and dry that it's an SBR.VaporLullaby wrote:.

Re: USFA ZIP
I bought USFA zip on impulse at a gun show because it was so unique. Poorest functioning gun Ive ever owned and I've owned a few. I don't think it ever made it through three consecutive shots. Sent it back to the factory twice. Both times they reported the gun functioned but when i got back it didn't with the same ammo they reportedly used. I used all sorts of .22 ammo hot cold medium- none of it worked. Tried different 10rd ruger factory magazines still a jamamatic. They sent me a bunch of "upgrade" parts on top of the trips back to the factory for me to install, still a jamamatic. I would duct tape a carrot to a end of a rifle before I attached a UFSA zip.

So nice for ATF's allowing for no question-legal toys that the geriatric set
acquired long ago,

Thanks again for helping break cold with clever humor.
