Need nonstandard thread protector

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Need nonstandard thread protector

Post by kwill »

Can you recommend a shop to make a non-standard thread protector? It is 7/16 x 24 TPI, OL 1/2".

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

cnc warrior may could make it.

TROS could definately make it, but he's so far behind in orders that you probably won't see it any time in the 2017 calendar.
I don't care what your chart says

One last try for help from someone who can suggest a solution or a shop that can make a one-off thread protector.

I can make what you need, send me a PM if you're interested. I'll have the same questions as Propeine about OD, material choice, and knurling.

That's a more or less standard Hex nut size or brake line fitting thread, so it seems like turning down a nut or fitting should be fairly trivial. Or am I am missing something here? Sounds like about 10 minutes of work on a mini-lathe.

OK, but I don't have the skills or the tools (mini-lathe). A couple of people have offered to help then they go silent. Not sure why. It is a rare, historically important pistol so I guess I'll put a standard nut on it to protect the threads until I can find a better solution.

I got your email once I got home from work about an hour ago. That's not really "going silent".

Propeine was first so I'll let him take this one.

I've not received a paycheck? Sadly I'm not even "in the industry" which I actually wish I were but not enough to move cross country.

I'd do it on the side if it weren't for ITAR. *sigh*

purely a cost thing for me. 500 over 3 years or whatever it amounts to means I can bum around doing extra work basically when I feel like it as long as I show some profit/effort to the ATF. ITAR means I have to find work to actively pay for it.

Did yall figure it out.

I can make aluminum thread protectors pretty easily, I am not a vendor, I'm just a hobbiest and am not sure how this board works if there are vendor requirements.

There are a bunch of us here that could do it. At least a couple of us quit offering to help when the OP was being an impatient dick.
